I can’t believe that Christmas is only a couple of days away now.  December always seems jam packed with holiday fun and fuss - the card writing, shopping, wrapping, shipping, baking, decorating, multiple gatherings of friends, family, coworkers, & neighbors, and of course the last minute omg-I-still-have-no-idea-what-to-buy-Aunt-Mathilda panic.  It’s no wonder that time flies by.

Of course there is one surefire way to be certain that time doesn’t fly.  And that’s to have a seat in the corner and stare at the wall.  Absolutely guaranteed to make time stand still.  Or at least it does for me.

I love baking and the holidays provide the perfect excuse to whip up some yummy treats in the kitchen.  The only problem I’ve found is there is only so much you can eat!  And it’s a shame to let food go to waste.  So this year, instead of making the usual sugar cookies and gingerbread, I baked birdseed ornaments. 

You mix together 3 cups regular birdseed, 1/4 cup flour, and 1/2 cup water and firmly pack the mixture into greased metal cookie cutters.  Really make sure to press hard so the seed will be as compact as possible.  Push a cut section of a drinking straw into each form and leave in place.  Bake the seed and straw in the cutters in the oven for 1 hour at 170 degrees.  Don’t worry, the straws will not melt. 

Allow the birdseed ornament cookies to fully cool.  Remove the cookies from the cutters and pull out the straw segments.  Thread ribbon through the hole in each cookie where the straws had been.  Hang outside for feathered friends to enjoy!

We had our final shoot of 2009 at Punished Brats yesterday.  David and I had the pleasure of working with hard handed Susan and super brats, Tina Tink and Lily Anna.  Several of the scenes we filmed yesterday were based on ideas that were submitted by the readers here last month in response to the “What Did I Do?” post.  There are still many more great ideas that we hope to use in shoots in the new year.

One of the storylines we performed was based on an idea from Ralf in which I agree to model for a fellow student photographer, Lily Anna.

Thank you to everyone who responded to my post on Like It Or Not!  I greatly appreciate the opportunity to correspond and receive feedback from readers like you. 

As a few mentioned, there is a genre of video where the spanking is very much desired and sexual.  That is certainly wonderful though in this context (both the style of scene Punished Brats portrays and the scenes/sites being discussed on the forum where I was nosing around) I’m referring to punishment and discipline scenes; not so much the erotic kind. 

Make Me

While I understand and enjoy the occasional scene where the spankee knows she has committed some sort of misdeed and seeks punishment, I prefer when the girl doesn’t appear to be so eager she practically dives over the spanker’s lap with glee for something that she is supposed to fear. 

I have momentarily been confused as to how I should act in scenes where I’m being informed (to my shock and dismay) that I’m going to be punished with a spanking and the spanker sits calmly with an open lap.  Do I submit willingly?  Do I make a run for it?  I’d prefer to have a bit of a struggle or at least be sternly commanded to get into position.  While it’s simply not physically possible for all spankers to pick me up and pin me if I put up a fight (Pixie is a lean, mean, squirming machine), I like to be placed in position somehow.  Take me by the arm, grab my ear or pig-tailed hair maybe, place a firm hand on my back and guide me.  No need to be rough, but stern and dominant.

Reactions

Lee mentioned that he doesn’t care for the “dead fish” spankee that just lies there and doesn’t move or speak nor one that over acts and screams bloody murder when getting a few light slaps.  I agree with this.  There is a happy medium.  And reactions should fit the actions. 

At Punished Brats, we do ask the girls to act in the set up - guilty, bratty, wild, etc.  But again as Lee stated, once in position, the spanking is real and the reactions are real.  We encourage the girls a bit to let go, feel free to be vocal, to kick, but remind them that since this is a video, we can’t have them bury their faces or hide behind their hair the whole time even if that is what they would normally do when getting spanked.  We want to see those facial reactions and any precious tears that may fall.

I certainly do know what Erica means about not liking the “porn star” reaction to what is a disciplinary spanking.  Oohing, ahhing, lip-biting, and writhing with pleasure is great for erotic spanking scenes - not so much for discipline ones (well, unless that’s some sort of plot twist). 

We have worked with girls that are very much into spanking and those that aren’t, but are willing to give it a try for a video.  As long as the girl is aware of what she’s getting into and is up for trying, it usually works out quite well.  The model doesn’t need to be a 24/7 lifestyle spanko to create a compelling scene, but it does make it a little easier to communicate what our goals are and why we would want certain styles of panties, the types of reactions, the attitude, etc if someone has at least some interest in spanking. 

I will still never forget the time though that we worked with a girl (who did a great job in her scenes and didn’t exhibit any of the cool professionalism that Funbun mentioned at least on camera) commenting extensively between scenes that spanking was just weird.  Probably not the best thing to say in front of the true spanking enthusiasts that make up the PB team and the other cast members that day, but when she was doing her scenes, she gave it 110%.  Who knows.  Maybe she was just a spanko that hadn’t fully accepted the interest yet.

Yes, It Hurts

Now having an interest in spanking does not mean that the girl necessarily enjoys the firm swats she receives in the video.  I know I don’t!  Spankings hurt.  The squeals, kicks, and yelps are real.  Even the ones in reaction to the first swat.  In some cases, especially the first swat!  A firm spank on a pristine bottom that has not received any sort of warm up is going to sting and burn as badly if not more than the tenth. 

I have become more vocal and demonstrative over time.  In part I think that is because my comfort level in front of the camera has increased, but also because I’ve learned that not only is it ok to show reactions, it’s generally encouraged.  I love having the chance to let go and yell and squirm.  When I first started filming, it was hard for me to do so because it didn’t feel as safe and I was also under the incorrect impression that any resistance was not welcomed.  I much prefer and enjoy being vocal and squirming as it’s a more natural response plus it helps to communicate how much pain I truly am feeling from my punishment. 

And now for answers to a few direct questions

Pixie, I’ve always wondered if when you started working as a spanking model you secretly hoped that it might ‘cure’ you, being regularly subjected to painful thrashings, week in, week out, for several years?

No, I didn’t enter the spanking industry with the hope of curing my desire.  Quite the opposite.  I didn’t consider stepping foot into the public spanking world until I had reached the point that I was comfortable with my desires.  Being involved in the industry and meeting so many wonderful people (both in person and online) that share this interest too has helped me to become even more at peace with myself. 

why are the spankees in videos called models instead of actresses?

As Ancient touched on in his comment, I believe this is because spanking content was once available primarily in the form of photographs.  Although video shoots are far more commonplace, the term model has stuck even though at least some acting for the scene set up and character role play. 

Acting or re-acting?  How much is scripted and how much adlib?

That will vary from company to company, scene to scene.  At PB, we used to use longer, more formal scripts for the scene set up, sometimes even a few suggested lines for mid-spanking, and then a scene ending.  We have moved away from that format though and now provide the actors with a brief description of the scenario and allow the players to adlib.  This allows for easier flowing dialogue and also lets the unique personalities of the models/actors shine through in their characters.

Someone mentioned wanting to see more videos in which the spankee is forcibly yanked over someone’s knee and spanked. As I understand it, producers have to be careful to establish, in the script, that the spankee consents to be spanked so as not to run afoul of the same laws that require her to be 18 or older. That’s why we encounter so many challenges of the “…or shall we call your father?” variety.

I am not aware of it being required by law to show within the context of a scene that a spanking is consensual (within reason of course and also making sure to have all legally binding documents stating consent and legal age on file).  I think a big problem with forcibly yanking someone over the knee is more of it just not always being an easy physical match.  We have done more scenes recently in which the girl is not admitting to the need for punishment and agreeing to get into position and instead it’s a grab-and-spank scenario.  I think many times the “or we’ll call your father” or “you can choose awful alternative ___” come into play is because we would try to come up with a semi-reasonable explanation for why or how a spanking could possibly take place outside of a consenting adult relationship.  This goes back to a post I did a while back on realism.  Here is a link to that entry if you’d like to check it out.  Realism

I had a wonderful time at the Strictly Spanking New York (SSNY) party last night.  I had the usual pre-party jitters, but not nearly as much as on previous occasions knowing I’d be seeing many familiar friendly faces and was sure to have the pleasure of meeting more nice folks.  Thank you though to those special few (and you know who you are!) that stuck by my side until I calmed down and became acclimated.  And as always, many thanks to everyone that put so much work into throwing another fantastic spanking party.  Today, I am writing this post with a pillow atop my already cushioned desk chair.  Ow!

As promised in my last post, I will be replying to the many wonderful questions and comments from the “Like It Or Not” entry.  I have decided to write a separate post to address the many topics and it should be ready to go in a few days.  Let me give you a ramble warning now.  I’m already well onto page two of my word.doc in a 10 point font and I’m not close to done yet.  You might want to make sure to have a refreshing glass of Diet Coke and perhaps a small snack nearby in case you get peckish as you make your way through what is likely going to be a lengthy update on Wednesday.

I’m thrilled with the comments and dialogue in response to my last post.  I do intend to reply to the feedback and questions that were left (and in fact will most likely dedicate an entire new post to them), but I’ve been pulled in a zillion directions having just returned home last night.  So for now, I will leave you with this post which I wrote on the plane ride home.  I’m pretty sure the person seated next to me was trying to read over my shoulder.  If he did, I hope he enjoyed my entry and that you all will too.

Tony of Shadow Lane sent me a few photos and inspiration to do a post on the unexpected hazards of filming a spanking video.  When signing up for a shoot, you go in with the understanding that your bottom is going to be spanked hard and left red, sore, and possibly marked for a few days afterwards.  But there are some funny occurrences that can’t always be anticipated.  Here are a few I’ve witnessed or encountered myself.

Wardrobe Malfunctions

Not all tops or dresses are very good about holding the boobs in when placed OTK.  Designers probably don’t consider the possibility of a naughty girl being tossed over a lap and placed in an inverted V position and so wardrobe malfunctions are a fairly common occurrence.  However, this is one malfunction that would garner few complaints.  Still, I do find that I now test out my tops, bras, and dresses before purchasing by assuming a downward dog yoga pos in the store changing room.

Flying Shoes

When kicking wildly in reaction to a rapid fire spanking, shoes can sometimes unintentionally become airborne.  Flip flops pose little risk, but heavier dress shoes can be dangerous to walls, camera, and the spanker as it whizzes by at top speed. 

Spankers beware!  Even when OTK, brats have many ways to fight back.

Tech Issues

Technical issues can and do happen to everyone in any situation and in every industry.  Cameras, computers, memory cards, discs, etc. all carry the risk of mechanical failure or error no matter how careful one is.  Most often there is a workaround or alternate solution, but sometimes there is no choice but to call “do-over”.  Certainly not the end of the world, but after completing an especially intense scene, you don’t want to hear “Would you mind doing that one more time?”

Sweating

Spanking scenes are hot affairs.  Literally.  You have two people with a lot of body contact, performing aerobic activity while experiencing excitement, anxiety, and pain.  You’re also doing so under hot studio lights and in some cases, no air conditioning (as the A/C can create background noise that is picked up by the camera’s sensitive microphones).  The result is sweat.  Icky perhaps, but a fact of life.

And if you place the poor overheated spanker in a Santa suit and frizzy beard, you can even mange to fog up his glasses by mid-scene.

Tequila

Yes, tequila.  What do you do when you’ve run out of the prop shots of water mid-scene and you’re left with only the real deal?  I suppose you could call a cut and risk ruining the momentum of the shoot … or you could dare to take your first ever shot of tequila.  And experience an amazingly intense kind of heat like never before … for all viewers to watch with amusement.

As I was lurking on a forum the other day (yes, I’m a terrible lurker), I saw a regularly posed question pop up.  “Do spanking models really enjoy getting spanked or are they all doing it for the money alone?”  Well, as with most everything, there isn’t a simple answer.  From my experience, the answer lies somewhere in the middle.  There are models that truly love getting spanked and happily engage in play off camera (long before, long after, and/or in addition to becoming involved with the industry).  To the other extreme, there are those that aren’t into spanking at all, but are willing to endure it in exchange for pay. 

And then there are plenty that fall somewhere in the middle - people who are open minded and wish to give spanking a try, those that have only ever fantasized about spanking before, those that don’t like the actual spanking but enjoy the after buzz, those who have a strong interest in the fetish world but not necessarily spanking specific, those that like it just a little, those that used to like it but not so much any more, and on and on and on and on! 

But while I welcome open discussion about the models that might fall into any of these various categories, my question to you is this: Do you prefer watching scenes that feature models that fall farther to one side of the spectrum or the other? 

In the post that I had read, there were strongly stated opinions as to what sort of person makes a good scene.  Some preferred watching videos that featured models who were truly into the spanking lifestyle and were real players.  This doesn’t necessarily mean the girl actually likes or acts as if she likes the discipline she is receiving in the video, but she is someone who has a genuine interest in spanking.  While they still wanted to see the girl punished fully, have her cry out, and sport a very red bottom, this group of forum contributors liked the idea of the girl being a genuine spanko who understands and shares in this wonderful kink.

Those in the other camp wanted to see girls that are not into spankings at all.  They felt these girls offer far more genuine scenes by experiencing all pain without even a chance of pleasure since spanking isn’t their thing.  They believed there would be far less acting and more realistic anguish displayed by a person who has zero interest in being spanked except for a pay check. 

My opinion is fairly neutral as in my own experience in having the pleasure of working with individuals covering a wide range of points along the spectrum, too many factors beyond true spanko or non-enthusiast come into play in making a good scene.  I don’t want to delve too far into giving my own opinion as I don’t want to either influence anyone else’s nor do I want to potentially ramble on into other topics.  So before I risk doing either, please give me your feedback on your preference. 

I am getting ready to head out of town to visit my family for Thanksgiving week.  I am looking forward to the bit of vanilla downtime to be spent with family but thanks to good ol’ wifi, I’ll be able to stay connected to the online spanking community as well.  So all Punished Brats updates will go up as scheduled and I should be able to check in here and via email (though granted not as often or quickly as I normally would). 

So as Thanksgiving nears, I’d like to take a moment to share some things I’m thankful for … and some things I’m spankful for!

- I am thankful for good, understanding, and supportive friends and loved ones whether they are kinky, vanilla, or somewhere in between.  And yes, that includes you! 

- I am thankful for the amazing generosity shown by all those that supported the Cause For Paws animal charity.  With your help, the shelter will be able to continue rescuing and finding loving homes for dogs and cats (plus chickens, rabbits, lizards, and more).  Many thanks to all that donated and promoted the event and to those of you that continue to make contributions now even after the spanking video and vanilla walk are over for this year.  Your kindness touches me and touches the lives of lots of little furry ones.

- I am thankful that green bean casserole will NOT be on the menu at my family’s Thanksgiving dinner.

Now for what I’m spankful for.  In other words, a couple of things that I’m very thankful for, but which could potentially be worthy of at least a little fun spanking.

- I am spankful for panty sales!!!

- I am spankful that wooden spoons are flammable.

(Don’t worry.  I didn’t actually harm the spoon with the lighter.  I’d be much more likely to safely toss it in our wood stove.)

 And here they are all nicely folded and stacked.  It actually doesn’t look like all that many in this picture but each stack has 5 - 6 pairs and there are 32 stacks.   

Now since this is all about telling the truth … truth be told not all 177 pairs appear in these photos.  I had four in the laundry at the time and I was wearing a pair.  Sorry Tony.  I wasn’t going commando.  Not this time anyway. 

Fifteen people guessed correctly that I had 177 pairs and ten guessed that I had 277.  In fact when I quizzed my husband as to how many I had, he too estimated 277.  I think that clearly indicates that I need to acquire another hundred pairs, no?

Actually, I’m always on the look out for cute new panties to add to my collection both for shoots as well as everyday wear but I also regularly part with pairs so the total is always fluctuating.  I keep them all in a (large) single drawer that has a divider in the middle so I can keep the panties I might wear on any given day separate from the new ones I hope to use in a future shoot. 

As for why most of the options ended in seven, I liked the repeating pattern rather than selecting random numbers and also thought a single seven might work as that’s the number of days in the week.  No special meaning behind the numbers beyond that. 

So, now that I’ve revealed the real total, I’m off to search the shops for that extra hundred pairs my husband thinks I already own.  :-)  You never can have too many pairs of pretty panties.
