A neighbor’s cow says hello. I had to snap this one quickly as the farmer was out and gave me an odd look for for photographing his livestock.

Lots of vultures around here. They usually roost in large numbers in the trees or on the steeples of the church down the road. This guy was sitting all by himself on the fence watching the swans glide through the water.

His buddies weren’t far away though. I know they’re not the prettiest birds, but they are rather funny. Note the one spreading his wings and giving me his best sexy, over the shoulder look.

And hey! Is this deer sticking his tongue out at me?

I’ve been home back from my beach vacation for a couple of weeks now and finally feel like I’m back into the ol’ routine again. While vacation is lovely, it’s also wonderful to come home again.

As a couple of you guessed, we went to the Outer Banks again this year. My boyfriend and I both love the beach and in October, it’s still pleasantly warm and sunny, but not nearly as crowded as during the height of the summer season.

The sun rising over the ocean was stunning. I’m glad I got a picture the first full day we were there as the other mornings I was very busy staring at the inside of my eyelids at the time of sunrise.

Once I did roll out of bed, it was out to the beach for a nice long walk each morning. We’d go for miles enjoying the surf and searching for shells. We combed the beaches and the bay hoping to find a perfect whelk shell, but the only one we came across was still inhabited.

Lots of little ghost crabs were out everywhere.

Speaking of ghosts, we went on a ghost walk and historic tour of Ocracoke one night. The tales were fascinating and sufficiently creepy that I would not want to wander down those dark private roads alone at night. From the stories we heard, Mad Mag and other spooky former residents might just take the opportunity to join me in a stroll.

Before the tour, we had a chance to see the Ocracoke lighthouse light up just as it became dusk. It’s the oldest working lighthouse in NC and never seems to be short on visitors day or night. The old lighthouse keeper’s home which is situated right next door is now a private residence. I wonder if they ever tire of having tourists walking around their yard snapping pictures of their home along with the lighthouse? If I lived there, I’d be tempted to dress as ol’ Mad Mag and give the tourists a good scare once in a while.

Another highlight of Ocracoke for me aside from the lighthouse and the haunted history is the Ocracat society. These feral cats are super friendly and live happily on the island like furry little beach bums.

There were 8 bedrooms at the house we rented including two kiddie rooms with double bunkbeds. I think the rooms were adorable and would have been the perfect setting for a bedtime spanking. Unfortunately with 9 other people sharing the house and the kiddie rooms devoid of doors for some reason, all indoor spanking activity was limited to our own bedroom.

Showing that I wasn’t afraid to bare my bottom on the beach …

resulted in blushing cheeks on both ends.

Every time I step outside, the flock of seagulls that camp out on my roof squawk at me. I’m pretty sure it’s because they see me as their personal chef. I feel bad for them when it’s cold out and worry they won’t be able to find enough to eat, so I’ll make them tunafish sandwiches or fish sticks if I have some around (I’m a sucker for poor little hungry animals, what can I say?). But today, I didn’t have either so I fed them Pepperidge Farm Goldfish. I figured they’re at least fish-shaped, right? But would the gulls like them? Apparently they do. A lot. It caused a big feeding frenzy, but after splitting a bag of original and a bag of pizza flavor, I think each one got their share. And now there are some very well fed and content seagulls with bad breath flying around.
