Sometimes when I wish to refer to this group of ours that enjoys spanking, I am stuck for a good term. I’ll often say “spankos” but I know that not everyone is fond of the word. Every time I go to write a post and type the word spanko, I pause wondering if I’m going to make someone cringe. Spanking enthusiasts is equally common and more P.C. but it’s a mouthful (not to mention a handful to type!). The thesaurus is of course completely and utterly useless in this case. Can you help?
How do you refer to those of us that share our passion for spanking? Spankos? Spanking enthusiasts? Spanking lovers (though that could be interpreted in many different ways)? Patting Pals (ok, now I’m just getting silly)?

August 15th, 2010 - 1:34 pm
I break it up and use a couple of terms.
When I’m talking about an event or a party I use “spankos”
When in respects to people who may not play in person and love to watch spanking content i use “Spanking enthusiasts”
When it comes to people who buy content and collect very exotic/Antique implements and other things I use “Spanking connoisseur”
the one term I cannot stand is “Spankophile” For some reason it sounds too negative for me.
And honestly “Patting Pals” has a semi cute ring to it. I honestly think you should just use what feels most comfortable to you. In the end there all just labels, and when it comes to labels you cannot please every one.
August 15th, 2010 - 1:43 pm
Yes, “spankos” (even when referring to “us” in Dutch). I didn’t know that there were negative connations with that for some people.
August 15th, 2010 - 2:05 pm
I use the one my roommate in college did. When speaking to him of a friend who was of the same persuasion as those of us who read this blog he said, “Oh, so she is one of THOSE people” 20 years later I have not let him forget it
and yes, I am proudly one of THOSE people.
August 15th, 2010 - 2:36 pm
Hi Pixie,
I use all of those terms (OK, maybe not so much “patting pals”). I also like to refer to our spanking community because we are more than just individuals spanking in a vacuum. We support and inspire friends who share this interest.
Hugs,
Bonnie

well spanking enthust or spankos, spankee and spankers, or spanking comunity. sometimes i say pervs, but i dont mean it in a negative way
August 15th, 2010 - 4:33 pm
I have no problem with the term “Spankos” myself but I feel that it might sound a bit silly when describing ourselves to outsiders.
During my early days of playing (mid 80s) there was a term in common use in my area that I liked, it was Corporal Punishment Role play. This was often reduced to “CPR” (“Role Play” being reduced to one word). I liked this it sounded accurate, slightly technical and adult. But with the rise in awareness about first aid it collided with “CPR” meaning “Cardiopulmonary resuscitation” and so fell out of use, I think that this is a great shame.

All of the above mentioned descriptions are suitable for each of us to varying degrees. Except I agree the one term, spankophile is a bit unnerving
What’s the concern for Miss Pixie? You planning on inviting some new friends to Mom & Dad’s for Thanksgiving dinner and not sure how to introduce them? lol!
If I am talking to someone in general coversation NOT part of the spanking community I would just say I like getting spanked or I’m into spanking.
Within this scene I identify myself as a spankee.I think my actions/comments are pretty upfront for people here to know what I want and need so I never really thought of any more ways to describe my “role”.
Spanking Lovers could be interpreted as people who are mutual spank/sex partners or not. I guess the people would either clarify the relationship as specifically as possible or not. How about Lovers of spanking? Or Spanking friends? Buddies?
August 15th, 2010 - 6:17 pm
No one term or word is going to please everyone. I use “spanko” because it’s easy to say and write, and it seems more people like it than don’t.
August 15th, 2010 - 6:29 pm
good topic.
how about shortening consensual spankiners to just consensuals. those in the know will know, those who don’t may ask “consensual what?” then as roseanna ana dana used to say “never mind”
ddon
August 15th, 2010 - 6:48 pm
I use spanko, generically; spanking enthusiast for those like me who are enthusiastic; and spanking lover with my spanking lower, when I have one.
August 15th, 2010 - 6:48 pm
Should be lover not lower. Need to retake elementary typing.,
August 15th, 2010 - 7:11 pm
Suggestions for spanko appellation:
1. Disciplined
2. Tanned
3. Laced
4. Corrected
5. Minding ( we minding people)
6. Pixieated
7. The brillig
8. Southbound
9. Standers
and ten…
10. Tenders

I have a girlfriend who is into spanking games, but she sees it as a prank. So she invented the word ‘sprank’ as in: you’ve been a naughty boy, I’ll have to sprank you…
Thruth be said: Sophie and me are living in Europe and not in America. But I agree with Miss Kelly: Spanko is simple but everyone knows what you’re talking about.

Spanko works for me within group, although I would probably use “Spanking Enthusiast” when speaking to someone who might not be one of “us”. Taking the “CPR” idea, perhaps “Spanking Enthusiast” could be made a little less of a mouthful as “CP Enthusiast” or even “CP fan”. But I really think I like spanko the best.

i like spanking community myself. it brings all of us who enjoy spanking, together as one.
August 16th, 2010 - 1:21 am
I don’t think there are any negative connotations, it’s just that the word doesn’t appeal to some people. I don’t really like it, but can’t think of anything better so I use it. The funny thing is we have a good term for those other people….vanilla, but not for ourselves. Maybe fudge ripple or something. If we’re going to go with ice cream maybe strawberry would be better since that’s the color someone’s bottom hopefully turns.
Spanker’s ok, but I’m not crazy about spankee. I tend to use top/bottom. That could be construed as BDSM rather than just spanking, but dom/sub would be more appropriate there.
The term I really hate is “switch”. The connotation there for a lot of people is not a top and not a bottom, but dabbles at both and probably isn’t very good at either. “I don’t want to play with a switch, I want to play with a real top/bottom (or dom/sub)”. Someone who is really good at both pretty much has two personalities wrapped into one person. I prefer the term “bicorporal” for someone who’s good at both. That really doesn’t solve the spanko issue though. Maybe something based on corporal. Corpvert? I guess we should stick with spanko for now.
August 16th, 2010 - 4:22 am
Let us combine the words Spanking and Alternative into the elegant term “Spalt”
And lo, ’tis an actual word, in adjective form meaning “brittle wood” and in verb form meaning “to splinter”. And what is the most common mishap in the implement spanking lifestyle? I rest my case.
I feel justified as a happy spalt to noun that there word for my kinky ends.

“Knights of The Crimson Moon” I like that. Seriously, a friend referred to people who like spanking as being “A Bit English”, that sounded sophisticated.
August 16th, 2010 - 7:07 am
I personally have no problem with the term spanko, but “spanking enthusiast” is pretty generic and covers both sides of the paddle. Spankophile is a term I have used before, especially for those of us who spend YEARS studying, researching and fantasizing before taking the plunge into the real world of spanking.
Thanks for asking this question Pixie…..

Personally I like and use the word “spankos”. Can’t think of a better one.

Ahhh! Once again the black-jack comment (#21) is mine (if no one else comments in the next few minutes)…
…”Spankophile” sounds too much like “pedophile” and puts us all in a very negative light even though most of us, although affected somehow as children, would never want to harm a child. So the challenge remains as to what to call ourselves….
…here are a few off-the-cuff, vodka induced ideas:
People of the paddle.
Brothers of the belt
Sisters of the strap
Customers of the cane
Bottom beaters
Ass whipping experts
Aficionados of the bottom-rouge (ABR’s)
Corporal Punishment Aficionados (CPA’s)
Gluteus Maximus Maximal Mother- #*%# -ers
Sorry, I didn’t mean to drag the conversation down with that last one…
… it looks like I’ll have to chew on some soap for a while! (Unless someone can think of some alternative punishment!)
August 16th, 2010 - 12:12 pm
We go with “spankos” most time. Some don’t care for it… but the majority are perfectly fine with the term… and everyone knows what it means. Spanking community or enthusiasts works too… or ‘this thing we do’ in some circumstances. In public, when vanillas could easily hear, we sometimes use “S” to mean spanking and “S’s” for spankos. So a few options there, but we go with what we like usually… spankos!

Spanko works for me. It’s short and has the word spank in it. What more could I ask for?
It’s short for spankophile, which doesn’t bother me. There are audiophiles, bibliophiles, anglophiles, technophiles…nothing sinister about the suffix.
August 16th, 2010 - 1:01 pm
Because I think of spanking as an “indirect” consequence of submissive role-playing, the options are really limitless.
Being a “spanko” seems always indirectly linked with being a slumber party girl or a make-believe princess girl. These terms open the door to all the imaginative outlets for spanking play.
The point is that being spanked without role play seems completely foreign to me.
August 16th, 2010 - 1:46 pm
Dear Pixie,
I find nothing wrong with the term “spanko”. Some people may think that “o” on the end makes it seem a bit silly, but it’s never really bothered me. “Spanko” is short and to the point, and is perfectly adequate for our purposes.
I’ve seen a number of people refer to spanking as “This Thing We Do”, or TTWD. It’s a bit of a mouthful, though, and then you might have to wind up explaining what the initials stand for and refer to, and by then, you’ve spent more time than necessary expaining the term. “Spanko” requires far less explanation.
Since I go by the nickname “Dr. Ken”, a lot of people usually ask if I’m a real Doctor, or what am I a Doctor of. My mormal reply is that I’m a Doctor of Spankology.
So maybe we could all call ourselves, “Spankologists.”
Hugs and spanks,
Dr. Ken

Pixie,
I’m for “spanko” and anything but “patting pals.”
August 16th, 2010 - 4:33 pm
Let me say that I respect the Doctor of Spankology. Nice man!!

In Chinese we say “同好”. Yes, there is a Chinese spanking internet scene (bigger than you think!). You might want to check out my blog (I recommend Google Translate, or, better yet, taking a few years of Mandarin).
August 16th, 2010 - 5:46 pm
@ Pygmalion I love Spalt!
Thanks, Pixie, for another interesting topic.
August 16th, 2010 - 6:32 pm
Tigerbutt-very cute and clever. LOVED your last definition.
I recommend you make an appt. with Pixie AND Veronica, seems like you need some “corporal correction”
Vodka in the middle of the day!

I have to fess up to my initial cluelessness when I first read the term “spanko”. I din’t know if it was referring to spanker or spankee. Then I realized it’s interchangeable.

Do we really need a term or name? I don’t cringe when I see “spanko” used and I guess I am one, but I would rather be called a woman who likes to be spanked…which is a mouthful. Speaking of terms, I love the term funishment!!!
August 16th, 2010 - 11:39 pm
Well, we could start saying ‘friends of Pixie’

I’m guessing Buttwhackos will not be received well.

LMFAO @ dana, “Buttwhackos” ha-ha!… but then if the shoe fits…hmmm.
August 17th, 2010 - 5:14 am
Kelly – I agree with you about the “corporal correction” idea but I must point out that the sun was well over the yardarm at the time of the comment you were referring to. b-)
August 17th, 2010 - 8:54 am
Paddle whackers? Of course that limits the implements to a sole device. How about bun busters? Too severe?
Seriously, I have used spankos and spanking enthusiasts depending on the forum, and degree of formality desired.
August 17th, 2010 - 9:31 am

LMAO.

Great topic!
I don’t know what term I would prefer… never gave it much thought. However, I do wish that there was some sort of signal, kinda like the handkerchief code, that could help us to spot one another.

@justme: “Well, we could start saying ‘friends of Pixie’”
Would we then be FOPs?
August 17th, 2010 - 7:52 pm
We’re “those into spanking.”
If it isn’t that simple, and has to be a silly new word, I shall remember to call the next person who comments favorably about my legs a Leggo!
August 17th, 2010 - 9:41 pm
lol @ Leggo
Mark me down as a leggo.
And boob-o
And rear-o

August 18th, 2010 - 2:39 pm
I liked the OTKers I saw a bit further up, but if you must find a new term for spankos, the SA works.
(Spankoholics Anonymous)
Or even GMers (Glowing Moons)
August 18th, 2010 - 2:43 pm
@Terri
If SAs, how would one “make amends”? Bend over for a spanking from all we’ve offended? I bet more than one of us would scramble to compile a LONG list if that were the case.
August 18th, 2010 - 2:49 pm
@Mitch:
Probably. But why would one WANT to make amends? SA should be Spankoholics Assembly. Or use one of the A’s below.
Hey! Harry Potter fans are going ot KILL me for this one: DA, Dscipline Associates/Army/Association/Assembly
August 18th, 2010 - 3:01 pm
Terri, I don’t think Spankoholics Anonymous works because few here are ready to admit they have a problem or that it could be a problem.
In fact, only those about to be or on the receiving end seem to be concerned they have a problem. Even then it seems to be confined to the heat of the moment and fades as they quietly reflect in this corner of their life.
August 18th, 2010 - 10:30 pm
Spankoids.
August 18th, 2010 - 11:58 pm
Spankensteinen. (German plural for more than one Spankenstein).
August 19th, 2010 - 4:50 am
To continue on the silly theme, perhaps the sound the spanking makes could make for some good suggestions. Whappers, Smackers, Poppers, Splatters, and Whackers.
Some would call us Whack-Os.
And mark me down as a Lorraine-o.
August 19th, 2010 - 4:51 am
Dave? Spankoids? Isn’t there a cream for that?
August 19th, 2010 - 12:21 pm
Well, how about
ASSSETS?
anyone missed me?

Oh my goodness!! So many fun terms. I’ll have plenty of interchangable phrases to use now when writing future posts, though we may have to refer back to this discussion to know what the heck I’m talking about when I say Spalt.
I love the FOP too. LOL!!
August 22nd, 2010 - 12:51 am
I use the term, ‘Kinksters.’
August 28th, 2010 - 9:52 am
Hello
I refer to us as the red six club. The six comes from the military for back or behind. It also refers to your bottom. But a lot of people dont know that. And we all KNOW what colour our bottoms turn after and during a spanking. Hence red six.

I think we should all be called sP4nK0L0ids – spelt exactly like that, “I’m down wiv da kidz, innit?”
