The subject of complementary punishments has been on my mind after reading some of the comments that were left on the hot buttons and off buttons posts. While I’m sure that this topic has been posed many times before, I’m up for giving it a ramble here.
Some punishments seem to go hand in hand with spanking. A big one is corner time, which Todd & Suzy just wrote about in their roundtable question this week. As I’ve mentioned before, I really struggle to do corner time. Not only is it difficult because I am devoid of activity and forced to stand still, but it makes my anxiety soar to not know what’s going on behind me. Ack! I have to really trust a person to be willing to stand in the corner. Even during shoots, I find it nerve wracking, but I understand the appeal and even necessity particularly in videos. It gives the viewer a chance to admire the bare red bottom after the spanking in a semi-believable manner. In real life, post-spanking corner time can give the spanker a chance to admire his or her handiwork as the spankee reflects on how he or she got into so much trouble in the first place.
Although my preference is for no corner time at all, if such a punishment is going to take place, I’d rather have it happen beforehand. It still allows me to think about what misdeed I might have done and nervously anticipate the spanking I have earned. I don’t see this occur in videos too much, but in real life play, this was more often how it occurred for me. No right, no wrong, just different.
Enough about those pesky corners. Another punishment that is frequently coupled with spanking is having to write lines. It can be exceedingly tedious, but at least you’re doing something. And you can always try to slip in a few words that weren’t dictated or insert little heart bubbles over the “i”s to make sure the top is on his toes when reviewing the completed piece. Writing lines can be a punishment in itself, but it has an extra zing to it if you have to do them while seated on a hard chair with a freshly spanked bottom. And of course if those extra words or heart bubbles are discovered, there might be a few extra smacks delivered upon review!
Mouth soaping seems to be a pretty controversial punishment these days. For every eager request that I receive to feature a spanking scene on PB that includes a mouth soaping, there is an equally heartfelt comment saying that such treatment is an awful sight. Simply a matter of diverse preferences. I have never been given a mouth soaping as a part of a real life punishment, probably because until recently, the closest I’d come to a swear word was fiddlesticks. I have since picked up a few bad phrases (mostly uttered at road warriors on the highway), but nothing too terrible.
I don’t mind doing a mouth soaping scene, but by no means is it a pleasant experience. Even those pretty little soaps that smell like fruit do NOT taste very nice. I suppose that is a good thing as ingesting soap is generally not recommended and may contain chemicals (such as lye) that can cause severe complications. I was a bit disturbed once when I received an email from a reader describing a “true life” punishment session that included drinking a fairly large quantity of liquid dish detergent. The purpose was to make the ordeal unpleasant immediately as it tasted terrible, but act as a further punishment later on when it would cause cramping and major intestinal distress. To each their own (provided it’s consensual and safe … in this case I think it crossed a line), but I’m hoping this was one of those times when a fantasy was simply being claimed as reality.
Wow, I really did ramble on here. Hope you will ramble back at me.

I think a lot can be said for ‘The Naughty Chair’ as well. It may not be as outwardly punitive as the corner, but just try and sit still once you have been put in the naughty chair. Darn near impossible I would think.
Another one that I like is punishment outfits. This may or may not be related to age play, though I would imagine the concept certainly heading in that direction.
But for me I would go for putting the naughty girl in the naughty chair, facing the wall.

This may seem odd, but I would say “Spanking and a hug”.
To me it is important that the spanking was “earned” and not given out of anger, so after, you give hug, and a promise that the next spanking for the same offense will be harder and longer.
Also, there is “a spanking and a spanking”.
Some things need more than one to make a point.
So, you get spanked, and told that one hour later you will get spanked again, maybe with a paddle the first time and a brush the next.
That way, she can feel that hot bottom and watch the clock for what is coming.

I read on another site that they make bars of white chocolate to simulate soap in their videos. I also read that in the unfortunate circumstance that you do get your mouth soaped rinse with milk not water. The fats in the milk breaks down the soap & doesn’t make foam.

Know mouth soaping has strong opinions on both sides. I’ve found it can work well… with some spankees… for either cussing or lying. I prefer to rub a wet bar of soap on a washcloth and use that instead though. Allows for a *small* amount of soap to be used and make the point… without it be overwhelming. Can also delay when the mouth can be rinsed with fresh water.
Have heard of folks that use hot-sauce instead of soap. Never done that one. My mother did it when I was growing up though… and, lol… I ended up liking hot sauce. Don’t thing soap is an acquired taste though. Mouth soaping certainly isn’t for everyone though.
I’ve assigned lines too… and must admit I’ll have to check closer when they’re turned in from now on. lol…didn’t cross my mind that one might try to “slip” some changes in here and there. Quite naughty.
Restricting privileges is another option. An example might be… you’re supposed to get something done, but come up short because time was wasted playing online… so, computer time is restricted. An earlier bedtime is another possibility.
Thing is though, I want the punishment to be completely over once the spanking has been given. So, restricting privileges tends to be more for times when a spanking isn’t possible. Same goes for other post-spanking punishment things. Have heard of spankees that have had to sit in a hard chair after a spanking… things along those lines. Just doesn’t work because I want the spanking to be the end of it… total clean slate after that.
Figging is something I’ve used during a punishment that works. It can be mixed in with a spanking quite easily. Obviously not for everyone… but I’ve had good results with it.

As always, I have strong opinions on these things.
Anyone who comes near me with a bar of soap will be blowing bubbles out of every orifice.
Anyone who uses capsaicin or any other kind of cream that causes a burning sensation deserves to have someone replace their Preparation H with the aforementioned burn cream.
Ginger belongs on sushi, not shoved up my bum. :-Þ
I’m neutral on corner time; I can take it or leave it. But I prefer it in the middle of the scene, not after. When the scene is over, it’s over, and I want comfort and kindness.
No lines. Unless, of course, I’m allowed to write “My top is a jackass” over and over.
I have mixed feelings about ancillary objects such as ropes, blindfolds and ball gags. Bondage bores me, and I’d much rather have a man’s strong arms and hands holding me in place than any bondage material. Blindfolds can be kind of hot in the right situation. Ball gags? Honey, if you want to shut me up, there are other ways. (feed me chocolate, of course. What did you think I meant??)

I mostly like just spanking and stuff that goes with the ritual, but if I know a woman wants other forms of punishment, that makes a big difference. The important thing is to get to the right emotions. For instance, mouth soaping or writing lines isn’t something I fantasize about, but if those things help create an effective scene, they can be good. I worry about ingesting soap, though. A little corner time goes a long way. Instead of writing repetitive lines, I’d prefer a written essay where she must express herself more fully. Possibly seated on a spanked behind.
There’s also the type of scene to consider. My favorite is discipline in a domestic setting, but if we’re doing erotic, then other forms of punishment become relevant. Like Erica, I have aversions to things like ginger up the bum or ball gags, but it’s okay if others are into it. It’d be fun to read a written essay titled, “Why my top is a jackass”… lol.

But I like the idea of the naughty chair and corner time in the middle of a spanking.

I haven’t done this in a long time but back in the 1980′s I used to make some of my spankees sing. It didn’t matter what tune it was, but they had to get all the way to the end. If they couldn’t get finish an entire song, I’d assign ‘row row row your boat’ or something equally simple that everyone knows.
The concert always took place after her first spanking while she either stood bare-bottomed in the middle of the room or remained over my knee. If I was unsatisfied with the performance (always), things heated up for her ladyship real quick.
In retrospect, this game seems kind of mean-spirited since the ladies were all incredibly embarrassed by the impromptu talent show. These days I would never want to humiliate a grown woman by making her submit to something childish and ridiculous, that’s just plain wrong.

There’s a lot mentioned above. Some seem to cross the line to a different fetish and I don’t think I’d want to experience them, although some (mouthsoaping) I have memories of from younger years. Corner time would be acceptable if the reasoning merited it. I fairly recently was sick and had my temperature taken in a rather childish way (giggle) but THAT is only allowed in certain instances and with certain people.
I’m a pretty basic OTK Girl with a desire to know why (scolding/lecture) beforehand and forgivness (Huggs/soothing rubs) afterwards.
As long as I have my cake, I’ll maybe let someone try a different icing!! MAYBE!!! LOL

It’s just the spanking for me. All that other stuff, soap-eating and corner time and other humiliations, is secondary, and sometimes to me can just seem silly, infantile, even irrelevant or unpleasant. The right tone of voice from the spanker, a pretty girl getting the spanking she really craves, a sweet aura of safe but intense fantasy..,that’s all I’m looking for.

Some make the punished girl do all kinds of choruses, with a hot glowing bum. When the girl is still in a bad mood she might get spanked again. I like that.
I tend to like ‘witnesses’ (Sister, brother, cousins, etc) as well. In particular when the culprit is being told on forehand that she will get a spanking on her bare bottom and that “X” will be invited to watch… That seems to intensify the atmosphere.
And – very realistic, as that happens a lot in domestic discipline – being send to the bedroom with no food. She is ordered to change into pyjamas and wait for mom to come to the bedroom after dinner.
At the side of the bed she gets otk, her pyjama bottoms come down and she gets a sound spanking. The door of the bedroom open so that all other family members can hear she is spanked on her bare buttocks.

I love Richard Windsor’s idea about the “naughty chair.” It should be designated as such with a big painted sign and be put in a public place.
Maybe the “naughty chair” even has a little bar across it such as you might find in a little child’s baby swing..:) This bar is useful for holding the offender in place.
And let’s not forget the little stand beside it that’s just perfect for spanking implements, bars of soap, and, for that special little one, sweet baby powder..:)

Since I was only interested in spankings for play rather than for discipline, my focus was on establishing a headspace and maintaining it for as long as possible, say over a long weekend or on a vacation (in the mountains). Therefore I was somewhat free to impose additional “punishments” that I would never consider were I to actually be disciplining someone.
Cornertime was a significant part of the after-spanking play, and it was always in the bare but I liked to vary it a lot. Similar to what Richard mentioned, I’d face a chair to the corner, the best one being a steel kitchen chair with a metal seat onto which I’d pour some boiling water so that, by the time I’d dried it off, it was still uncomfortably hot like a vinyl car seat in the midday sun. Talk about wiggle and squirm, the object of course being to capitalize on the heat and discomfort of a freshly spanked bare bottom (a fine sight in that position). I didn’t impose much standing time because, frankly, I got bored – except when we vacationed a week at a 150-year old cabin in the NC mountains, complete with a large woodshed, wrap-around porch, a huge boulder nearby and plenty of woodland, all of which were used for “cornertime.” My partner had a special yen for outdoor “fun” so I had her stand bared and red facing the rock, a large tree, and of course on the porch (I dutifully reminded her it was hunting season and she’d best behave or she’d get her cornertime extended, increasing her chances of some hunter happening by or fixing her in his sights).
Never been big fan of mouth soapings, or any other stuff like Tabasco or pepper, though I did once use a teaspoon of castor oil, having heard my grandmother extolling its “virtues” throughout my childhood years. I tried it myself, first, and to this day can’t stand the taste of postage stamps (thankfully no longer necessary) or smell certain glues without gagging. If the Italian Fascists used the forced drinking of castor oil to break their enemies, then that’s one post-spanking punishment I’ll avoid. I’d much rather stick to “funishments” anyway and, since I always considered writing lines a waste of good paper, I instead imposed something I was told was far worse: I recorded a 6-hour VHS tape of the most boring, obnoxious, and mind-numbing TV commercials I could find, then would randomly choose a spot and have my partner sit and write down (with a grease pencil on a sheet of plastic) the details of each one that played for a specified amount of time – or have the punishment extended after a more lengthy and harder spanking. Talk about pleas for mercy!
Of course, there are the usual post-spanking punishments we’ve discussed before, involving being sent to bed either straight away or as an “early bedtime,” possibly accompanied by a reminder spanking, all of which are quite effective at achieving a certain headspace. Again, not big on games with food, such as “going to bed without supper,” but an interesting and oddly effective twist on this is having her drink a glass of warm milk just before tucking her in for the night, after all the spanking and such, naturally. It seems to significantly enhance the psychological effect.
Funbun mentioned the merits of spanking in front of witnesses, especially family members. About the closest I ever come to it was again in that old cabin, which had large, old portraits and family photos dating from the mid-1800s up to the late 1950s in plain sight. As I bared her (standing) I’d tell her how she was going to be getting a spanking in front of the whole family, the change of expression on her face and the blush that came to it as she looked around at the pictures told me she was *really* getting into the idea. Unfortunately I was only able to do that the one time (her folks arrived unexpectedly the next evening), but I’ve fondly remembered that and hoped to try it again all these years since.

I think mouth soaping is pretty ridiculous. It not only does nothing to enhance a scene, it’s pretty hypocritical, in my opinion. Isn’t mouth soaping supposed to be about “cleansing” the person being disciplined for uttering foul language, as if the disciplinarian has never uttered an obscenity? Please! By the way pixie, as a lifelong writer and editor by trade, I think you write very well, something I think Erica Scott appreciates, as do I. Keep up the good work.

As ^Mike mentioned, there is the old tradition of a dose of castor oil but I don’t recommend it. Yes it tastes horrible but its real purpose is to put an express train in her belly which is a little rough on the tracks as it starts then unstoppable.
If a dose of “medicine” is desired, I would recommend a spoonful of coconut oil. It is solid at room temperature but melts immediately on the tongue. The taste isn’t horrible but it not a snack food either and if she isn’t allowed to rinse her mouth the taste and oily feel lingers a bit. And it has health benefits. However, it doesn’t have after effects some desire.
I’m a fan of extra tasks or punishments that have some utility. Lines and corner time have their place but to me they allow the person to zone out in a way and really don’t allow them to feel punished but also accomplished. Much like the military’s extra military instruction(EMI – marching, manual of arms, etc.) as punishment, the task should be tedious but have some value. I struggled to find something in a domestic setting but a toothbrush and the kitchen baseboards comes to mind. That has the added benefit of having the spankee bottoms up while at her task.
Along these lines, it occurred to me that after the spanking, the spankee could be given the task of shaping and smoothing a paddle blank using purposely small pieces of sand paper. She gets the paddle and is forced to prepare the replacement. The paddle project would be ongoing over lots of punishments with each sanding session leading to the inevitable application to her backside. Or after a strapping, the strap could be hung from a nail just above her head and she is required to apply a leather dressing to keep the strap supple and able to conform to her bottom. A period of rubbing and caressing the dressing into the leather would cause her to become intimately familiar with the instrument of her suffering not to mention the fatigue of repeatedly raising her arms as she massages the entire length of the strap.

I love watching a scene where there are other people (siblings, friends) present during the spanking or are there beforehand when the spankee is told she is going to be spanked.
Being sent to bed early is another complementary punishment that I like.

I guess I’m more a fan of traditional after punishment kind of person. Having to go to bed early or having to do extra chores around the house. Standing in the corner is ok but it seems like it is a waste of time especially for the spankee. Yes the spanker could use that time to reflect on his or her work but other then that pointless. Pixie what kind of extra naughty words could you slip in while writing line I think that wold just make the bad words stick out more. USE EXMAPLES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don’t enjoy scenes or stories which involve enemas as punishment, whether unto themselves or associated with spanking. While I like rectal temps, I don’t like the idea of their being used as punishment, either. I also don’t enjoy anything in which the spankee is humiliated by being put into a diaper, or a boy is made to wear girls’ clothes.
I guess this would be the opposite of punishment, but I like when the spankee is later (not immediately afterward) rewarded for cooperating with the spanking, by having soothing lotion rubbed into her / his red, sore bottom. (Lying over the lap on a bed for sofa for this can be one of the most blissful feelings in the world — and a great way to fall asleep!)
When I have given real-life disciplinary spankings, I have had my “niece”-friend do some writing, both before and after the spanking, but not repetitious lines: Before, she writes about what she has done wrong, how she feels about it, and how she feels about the punishment she is about to get. After the spanking, she writes about how, specifically, she will help herself to avoid repeating the misdeed in the future.

Richard – You’re darn right that would be impossible! Ugh! My in-laws have a small bench in their family room though that has “Time Out” carved into the back of it. Oh how I’d love to nab that thing … even though I’d never actually want to have to use it myself.
Lee – Yes, a hug can sometimes be a very nice and touching way to signal that a spanking is over and all is forgiven. A spanking and a spanking … wow! That would really be an intense punishment by the very fact that you’d have to wait with with an already sore bottom about to get sorer. Eeep.
karaJ – white chocolate would sure taste a lot better. We don’t do soaping scenes too often, but just like the spanking, we’d always want to use the real stuff so that the reactions are authentic. I will keep the milk part in mind though as that would be good to have on hand to offer to the poor girl afterwards!
Todd – too funny that you developed an affinity for hot sauce! I can just imagine saying “no mom, not the hot sauce … hehehehe.”

Restricting priveleges is tough on the top too as you have to consistently monitor to make sure the restriction is being adhered to. Way too much trouble. So I think you should not limit computer time … ever (I’m trying to make up for my little assist above).

dana – So much has to be considered and based on the two people playing and their mutual interests. Chemistry too is also always key. There are some people that I would willingly submit to and even get a charge out of receiving a mouth soaping or being instructed to write an essay. Others, I would be turned off. As for the ginger … I’m keeping my distance no matter what or whom!
Crystal – So true. I never had to write lines growing up, but if our class got in trouble in school, we would sometimes have to repeatedly copy definitions from the dictionary. Mostly the entry for “quiet”. That sucked too.
Stef – Corner time in the middle of a spanking is like a little (anxiety filled) rest between rounds at a boxing match!
Tony – That is too funny!!! I’d have begged to skip the song, save your ears, and just spank me again.
tim – Seated corner time is cool but not something we do too often. Perhaps we should incorporate it a little more. But we usually use the corner time in the first place just to show off the red bottom. Let’s see what we can work out.
Linde – Deciding what is a little cross over and what is truly crossing the line is unique to every person, but I don’t think you can ever go wrong as long as tried and true otk spanking is your basis!
Lorraine – Mmmm outfits. You know how I LOVE them.
Funbun – We’ve been doing quite a few “witness” scenes recently. This last shoot, it worked out that the new model Lorraine and I kept playing bratty sisters, friends, or rival sorority members who got to witness one another’s spankings. We really got into it!
ddon – Apologizing to the wronged party would be intense. Can only imagine the sheepish look of the guilty party having to say I’m sorry with a glowing bottom.
No, not hoarding Angelina’s content. I post in a certain rotation to do my best to offer a good variety rather than the same couple of girls’ scenes in a big chunk. As for Sarah, we need to film more of the bratty miss!

I’m absolutely with you about not messing with one’s food – neither denying one a meal nor force feeding someone until they are ill. A glass of warm milk for a post-spanking tuck in sounds quite nice and nurturing though.
Biker – Yeah, it can be pretty hypocritical, but if the spanker is human, he or she has probably lied, cheated in school, passed notes, called out sick when well, taken a puff of a cigarette, broken curfew, talked back, or shown up late to work/school at least once … but spanking a naughty brat for those very reasons is still justified in my mind anyway. I think mouth soaping is a popular cross over fetish as it was a common domestic childhood punishment that might have been given at about the same age as a spanking. I’m not about to give up the joys of spanking in favor of soap and suds, but if it’s used sparingly every so often, that’s ok in my book.
2Good – It all depends on what the given lines are. You always have to do a few that are as dictated of course to lull the top into believing they were all written to specification. But then you can start to modify. Using the example I wrote up “I will not chew gum in class”, you can start squeezing the letters together more and more as you work your way down the page until *OOPS!!* the word “not” suddenly gets dropped. Can’t get in trouble for lying that way, right?
Nikolai – Is that what castor oil is for? Yikes! I must have been thinking of cod liver oil which must taste at least equally as gross just by the very name of it. As I said though, I’m not up for being forced to actually ingest anything for punishment nor being denied the basic need of eating suitable food.
Extra tasks or chores certainly work. Scrubbing out the garbage cans, cleaning the gutters, extra weeding, all those icky things that should be done but you really don’t want to.
T – Yes, that really adds to the embarrassment and shock of the punishment!
mudd – Well, if you have to write lines say 200 times, then you can make sure the top is paying attention by writing the sentences backwards (still writing it, no?), in all caps, alternating caps and lowercase letters, or simply writing an entirely different sentence altogether around line 112 just to see if they are thoroughly reviewing the presented work.
Jeff – The style of writing assignment you give sounds pretty therapeutic in nature as opposed to disciplinary. Probably helps her to truly make the changes she needs.
