As a few mentioned, there is a genre of video where the spanking is very much desired and sexual. That is certainly wonderful though in this context (both the style of scene Punished Brats portrays and the scenes/sites being discussed on the forum where I was nosing around) I’m referring to punishment and discipline scenes; not so much the erotic kind.
Make Me
While I understand and enjoy the occasional scene where the spankee knows she has committed some sort of misdeed and seeks punishment, I prefer when the girl doesn’t appear to be so eager she practically dives over the spanker’s lap with glee for something that she is supposed to fear.
I have momentarily been confused as to how I should act in scenes where I’m being informed (to my shock and dismay) that I’m going to be punished with a spanking and the spanker sits calmly with an open lap. Do I submit willingly? Do I make a run for it? I’d prefer to have a bit of a struggle or at least be sternly commanded to get into position. While it’s simply not physically possible for all spankers to pick me up and pin me if I put up a fight (Pixie is a lean, mean, squirming machine), I like to be placed in position somehow. Take me by the arm, grab my ear or pig-tailed hair maybe, place a firm hand on my back and guide me. No need to be rough, but stern and dominant.
Reactions
Lee mentioned that he doesn’t care for the “dead fish” spankee that just lies there and doesn’t move or speak nor one that over acts and screams bloody murder when getting a few light slaps. I agree with this. There is a happy medium. And reactions should fit the actions.
At Punished Brats, we do ask the girls to act in the set up – guilty, bratty, wild, etc. But again as Lee stated, once in position, the spanking is real and the reactions are real. We encourage the girls a bit to let go, feel free to be vocal, to kick, but remind them that since this is a video, we can’t have them bury their faces or hide behind their hair the whole time even if that is what they would normally do when getting spanked. We want to see those facial reactions and any precious tears that may fall.
I certainly do know what Erica means about not liking the “porn star” reaction to what is a disciplinary spanking. Oohing, ahhing, lip-biting, and writhing with pleasure is great for erotic spanking scenes – not so much for discipline ones (well, unless that’s some sort of plot twist).
We have worked with girls that are very much into spanking and those that aren’t, but are willing to give it a try for a video. As long as the girl is aware of what she’s getting into and is up for trying, it usually works out quite well. The model doesn’t need to be a 24/7 lifestyle spanko to create a compelling scene, but it does make it a little easier to communicate what our goals are and why we would want certain styles of panties, the types of reactions, the attitude, etc if someone has at least some interest in spanking.
I will still never forget the time though that we worked with a girl (who did a great job in her scenes and didn’t exhibit any of the cool professionalism that Funbun mentioned at least on camera) commenting extensively between scenes that spanking was just weird. Probably not the best thing to say in front of the true spanking enthusiasts that make up the PB team and the other cast members that day, but when she was doing her scenes, she gave it 110%. Who knows. Maybe she was just a spanko that hadn’t fully accepted the interest yet.
Yes, It Hurts
Now having an interest in spanking does not mean that the girl necessarily enjoys the firm swats she receives in the video. I know I don’t! Spankings hurt. The squeals, kicks, and yelps are real. Even the ones in reaction to the first swat. In some cases, especially the first swat! A firm spank on a pristine bottom that has not received any sort of warm up is going to sting and burn as badly if not more than the tenth.
I have become more vocal and demonstrative over time. In part I think that is because my comfort level in front of the camera has increased, but also because I’ve learned that not only is it ok to show reactions, it’s generally encouraged. I love having the chance to let go and yell and squirm. When I first started filming, it was hard for me to do so because it didn’t feel as safe and I was also under the incorrect impression that any resistance was not welcomed. I much prefer and enjoy being vocal and squirming as it’s a more natural response plus it helps to communicate how much pain I truly am feeling from my punishment.
And now for answers to a few direct questions
Pixie, I’ve always wondered if when you started working as a spanking model you secretly hoped that it might ‘cure’ you, being regularly subjected to painful thrashings, week in, week out, for several years?
No, I didn’t enter the spanking industry with the hope of curing my desire. Quite the opposite. I didn’t consider stepping foot into the public spanking world until I had reached the point that I was comfortable with my desires. Being involved in the industry and meeting so many wonderful people (both in person and online) that share this interest too has helped me to become even more at peace with myself.
why are the spankees in videos called models instead of actresses?
As Ancient touched on in his comment, I believe this is because spanking content was once available primarily in the form of photographs. Although video shoots are far more commonplace, the term model has stuck even though at least some acting for the scene set up and character role play.
Acting or re-acting? How much is scripted and how much adlib?
That will vary from company to company, scene to scene. At PB, we used to use longer, more formal scripts for the scene set up, sometimes even a few suggested lines for mid-spanking, and then a scene ending. We have moved away from that format though and now provide the actors with a brief description of the scenario and allow the players to adlib. This allows for easier flowing dialogue and also lets the unique personalities of the models/actors shine through in their characters.
Someone mentioned wanting to see more videos in which the spankee is forcibly yanked over someone’s knee and spanked. As I understand it, producers have to be careful to establish, in the script, that the spankee consents to be spanked so as not to run afoul of the same laws that require her to be 18 or older. That’s why we encounter so many challenges of the “…or shall we call your father?” variety.
I am not aware of it being required by law to show within the context of a scene that a spanking is consensual (within reason of course and also making sure to have all legally binding documents stating consent and legal age on file). I think a big problem with forcibly yanking someone over the knee is more of it just not always being an easy physical match. We have done more scenes recently in which the girl is not admitting to the need for punishment and agreeing to get into position and instead it’s a grab-and-spank scenario. I think many times the “or we’ll call your father” or “you can choose awful alternative ___” come into play is because we would try to come up with a semi-reasonable explanation for why or how a spanking could possibly take place outside of a consenting adult relationship. I can’t describe it, but there are just some girls that look, or act like the need a good spanking.

yet another great post.
imagine my chagrin when i started to go thru pb’s from the begining, month by month. i found that almost every idea i had been emailing you about had been done. the current “formula” has evolved to please the most people. sometimes i feel very alone.
the “make me” & “reactions” mean alot to me. when mischa [the little dollink] has her towel whipped off, instead of going over ida’s lap in 3 seconds a more naturall reaction would have been shrieks, frantic covering up, and evasion. but this would take a min. or two from the spanking [i can here the greek chorus now].
you did a fantastic episode with a chair. i’ll bet the chorus chimed in with “we don’t want to see your ass in a chair…we want to see it spanked!” churll’s all, but i shouldn’t judge.
i think the girls are all capable of all the acting needed but a video that’s 90% spanking doesn’t give them much chance.
oh…i never realized that you had to pay extra for gallery photo’s. to show you how incredably naive i am i thot they would be thrilled to be photographed by someone as tallented as you are.

I agree with you that sometimes it just seems awkward when a brat who is supposed to not want to be punished seems to fly across her chastiser’s lap under her own power. A good, convincing “pull-over” is hard to find in any spanking video. However, the best one I think I have seen is the one in “Kicked Out Of Dorm” when Veronica grabs Amanda Rose’s wrist and Amanda quite convincingly (although unsuccessfully) resists.
It is interesting how different people tend to zoom in on certain details that probably go unnoticed by most; I appreciate you and this forum because as a group we seem to be able to embrace and appreciate our different perspectives on the same thing.

Hey Pixie – Thanks for a great post… The BEST kinds of videos are the ones with the longer setups and the gradual baring… There is NOTHING better than the discussion, especially dad/daughter, then the anticipation of first over the dress/jeans (or PJ’s EVEN BETTER) then over the panties, then bare… It seems that recently your vids have been straight to bare – too quickly I think, but just my opinion – any others agree??? i’m with you. noone likes the female body more than me but when it comes to spanking it is interesting but not integral. a pair of panties offer precious little protection for the stinging flat palm of a man’s hand [or any implement].
i’m all for variety and a constant use of metronome spanking gets old. but it seems we’re in he minority here so i don’t see much hope for change. money b4 art everytime. the older pb’s offer some of this so i’m savoring these slowly.

Hi Pixie,
Just went over the great lay-out of your Site and an idea popped up in my mind. There has been quite a bit of discussion on this forum about the spanking models…
Do they do it, because they are spanko’s or do they do it just for the money? Many members might like to know (like me). So it could be a suggestion to colour the names of the real life spanko’s in White.
There is a wonderful overview on PB’s site already (Models) featuring all models. All the names in a Red colour against a Blue background. I propose to change the RED colour into WHITE when these models are real life spanko’s.
This way we see – in the blink of an eye – whether the models are spanko’s in real life or not. Goes for both Spankers and spankees.
Please let me know if this is “do-able” and maybe other members might comment as well.

Great post, Pixie! You always cover the concepts and feelings underlying spanking so well. For many spankos, I’m glad it’s something we like to think and talk about.
On another issue, I’m more for realism. Less contriving for the audience. I don’t see a parent or other authority figure gradually baring the bottom like it’s for entertainment. Either spank on the pants, the underpants, or the bare. Pick one, and administer the punishment, but please, pick the bare.

Funbun – I like the idea but wonder if it might be a breach of the model’s rights? I’m not normally one to come across all politically correct but…
If a non-spanko model was outed I’d imagine it might hurt her credibility and therefore career / earnings. If she were to make the comment herself then fine but for industry insiders to do it feels wrong to me.
In my opinion it would probably be better to let the true spankos come forward of their own free will and leave it at that/

I think one of the reason that spanking content creators, “take the path of least resistance” is that it is likely simply easier.
Like you say above, it is physically taxing.
There is also a segment, that puts slight resistance in the same category as “bratting”. I enjoy brats/bratting, and am not interested in pure submission. Many people though are, and want to see a scene with little to no resistance, done in a routine and matter of fact way.
I find that boring, and don’t simply want to see beating, but interaction between the spanker and the spankee. I especially enjoy lecturing, etc…an explanation for the spanking, and not just “cutting to the chase”.

Not a “ramble” in the least, but clear, concise, and very informative. I found it especially interesting to learn that PB has moved from using scripts toward ad libbing scenes based on a simple descriptive idea. That raises the question, though, as to whether a scene would be better served with a model who is a true spanko versus one who’s merely acting for the fee. Although it would probably depend on the specific scene, might a spanko be likelier to get into the scene more readily and thus offer bratting and other responses based on her own experiences than someone having to draw on little or no personal experience?

I actually coined the phrase ” smacktress” some years ago. I think better acting comes with experience. Look at even some of the most well know actors in their first roles. Many were only marginal at best. When you are comfortable in your own skin in front of the camera. The acting will blossom. Doesn’t HURT if the spanking DOES. Acting is reacting plain and simple.

There’s no law requiring that an encounter between two people needs to be established as consensual within a filmed fictional scenario. Bondage and spanking videos have no such requirement and neither do cable networks like HBO or Showtime. Imagine the effect such a law would have on shows like Dexter or True Blood.

I agree with Mike. I was reading the post very slowly and carefully, looking out for the ramble, but I came to the end of the post and I still haven’t seen it. Did I miss it?
Tony is absolutely right. If the law would’ve mandated that there’s a need to show consent, the entertainment business, as we know it, would have long been dead. There are a couple of reasons for the threating phrase of “I’ll call your father/police/(any other threat) or else you’ll have to bend over for the paddle” phrase. First of all, we in the spanking world are so enamored by the scene of the poor girl being spanked for her misdeeds that we forget that there are many other punishment methods out there. so we need to keep it real. Secondly, and this might be a bit of a controversial statement, in places where corporal punishment still exists, or in the past when it used to be more prevalent, the teacher/principal, etc, frequently, if not oftenly, enjoyed giving the spanking. But since they didn’t want it to make it obvious that they enjoyed dishing it out, they put out a straw man that they know the child would not except and so the girl chooses the “easier” route for her, while the teacher says that he would’ve rather not spanked and told the parents instead. It’s a great method of releasing an guilt they might have for spanking the poor kid.

Biker – Tone says a lot, even when not a word is spoken. Not too rough, not too indifferent … ahhh.

ddon – Glad you have found some of the earlier scenes that strike just the right chord for you.
Kim – We each have certain things that really do it for us as well as things that can totally ruin an otherwise “good” scene. But it’s all so highly individualized. No wrong or right, just personal preference and I too find it interesting to discover what details people focus on.
Nooch – When filming our scenes, we always do at least one straight to the bare (for all the folks out there that enjoy and have made requests for seeing the bare, white bottom grow redder with each spank) and then the balance is done over panties and clothing as needed. Back along, all we did was the progressive spanking – over the clothes, over the panties, finally the bare. While we still do this style as well, we have made a concerted effort to also offer more of a variety in starting either bare or over panties in scenes too.

Funbun – Owen’s good point about specific models’ privacy aside, I’d have a tough time categorizing the spankers and spankees as spanko or non-spanko. Rather than black and white, I think it’s more of a spectrum as I illustrated with the little graphic on the Like It Or Not post. For example, if I were to ask a random person if they like spanking and they say yes, they might have a couple of light taps during love making in mind. Are they a spanko in the same way that we’d define it? Or are they vanilla? What puts them in one category or the other? Those are the things that I’d fuss over in trying to make a decision of how to mark them.
