It’s time for another one of my nosey questions. Usually they are inspired by a conversation I had with a friend or something that came up in email correspondence. This one is no exception.
When you’re watching a spanking video, do you envision yourself in the role of the spanker or spankee or do you simply enjoy the scene as it plays out between the characters on the screen? Is your answer the same when viewing a spanking photo or reading a spanking story?
Sometimes if I can really relate to the spankee or her misdeed, I’ll imagine myself in her place. I’ll feel my own anxiety rise with anticipation and then cringe in empathy with every swat. If the model is someone I know well however, it’s harder for me to put myself in her place.
When I view a photo, I fixate more on the captured moment. I enjoy looking at the girl’s reaction, the state of her bottom, the emotional connection between spanker and spankee. I do the same when I watch a video, but without a clear storyline to follow, I’m only an observer.
I think the storyline is somehow key for me as with a written tale, I’m again more likely to put myself into the shoes of the naughty brat.
How about you? Do you imagine yourself in the scene or are you more of an observer? Does it make a difference who the characters are?

In using the words ‘captured moment,’ you just hit upon the mental/emotional conditioning that is involved in “kink.”
Scenarios are emotional states that are brought to life through repetition and ritual..the stage is set…now the action can begin.
Captured moments are those sensual scenes that can be referred to again and again, either in the imagination or acted out.
Maybe the players don’t matter as much as the scene. The important thing is the link between what you know feels good and how to go about finding it.
(This sounds so much different than my last post, doesn’t it?)

My identification has always been completely with the guest-of-honour, the one getting whalloped, but only if female. I don’t especially enjoy seeing men spanked (by either gender). And you’re right, the dynamic of the two participants is a crucial consideration. One reason PB videos are so enjoyable for me is that all the regulars seem to like and respect each other; there’s a comfortable, playful vibe, and they all seem like either mentors/proteges or kindred spirits.

Another interesting topic. Mostly, I guess I’m just an observer looking to see if the people in the video seem to be acting or are they reacting. Do they come across as “real” or are they trying hard but ….? I view spanking videos from two aspects. The spanking itself, and everthing that comes before or after. If I am lucky enough to know a little about the actors in the video and I feel I have something in common, then I feel a special connection. Or if the topic touches on some present or past real life experience than I am drawn more into the video. “Secretary”?
Still pictures of spanking leave much more to the imagination … and I feel I sometimes have a very vivid imagination. Wondering what happened, what was said, how long had the spanking been going on when the picture was taken?
Usually, I’m just an observer, although later while alone I may think about how the scene or the spanking could be different. I might wonder how much pain the spankee really felt. Was I watching two spankos or 2 actors.
Oh, but there IS one video which I identify with totally and HAVE put myself in the positionof the spankee many times. It’s called “The anxiety of the girl waiting” and I’m sure I’m not the only one who is tremendously appreciative of the wisdom of those involved.
You might understand why this blog is the only one I post to on a regular basis.

I have to tell you Pixie, you are by far the most interesting kinkster i have ever encountered. Most online spank/BD forum writers would be loath to break the 4th wall like you do on a regular basis. An interesting question. For me watching a vid is just that watching from afar. If its a good one with a decent storyline and dialogits easy to do that. However with some sites I often find myself being annoyed about the camera angle, stupid dialog or any other number of things. Therefore I often just think of how I would have directed or scripted the shoot.
A good story is just that, like any good book or written piece I can lose myself in the situation. Spanking stories are usually skewed to the writers preference. As you well know mine I used to write a lot myself. And yes I did get to play a leading part in those . Although useally as on observer if that makes sense.
For me pictures are the best place to become part of the story. A paints a thousand words and they are all from my own imagination. So I can set the whole tome of the story behind the picture.

Another very interesting thing to consider, Pixie. I think my answer would be all of the above and it depends. Okay, wishy-washy and indecisive, but I try.
I guess I wear lots of hats when I’m watching, looking, or reading. Mostly, I’m an observer, but not so much a passive one. I’m often thinking how I would do something different. There can be many things I’d change in a video, from camera angles to dialog to dress to story line, so I have my producer hat on. With stories, I’m a writer, and usually not so involved in the plot that I’m not comparing the writing to how I’d tell the story. With photos, I might be thinking about the photography or how to process the image. So I’m not just a spanko. In order for something to draw me in, turn me on, involve me on some more personal level, it has to be special to me in some way. To be honest, I’m a bit jaded. There was a time when any hint of a spanking was enough to captivate me.
When it comes to spanking, I can be quite satisfied as a voyeur. I don’t need to be actively involved. The story and the characters are what interest me, and in whatever role they have to play in a discipline scenario, directly or indirectly. I want to know them and what it all means to them, and they don’t need my influence. So unless something in the presentation causes me to think about being involved, I remain just an observer. However, there are often ways I would like to see the story go, or things I want to know that aren’t being revealed, because my specific kinks are still what attract me in the first place. I’ll become involved, as I want to be in the scene to help steer its course.
I think like for many people, if I can relate personally to a character, it’s likely to draw me into the scene. The stronger I’m attracted to the actor/character, the more I want to see myself with them. That’s true whether they’re a real person in a video or a character in a story. How I want to be (or imagine myself) involved with them depends a lot on their personality, and what they want or need, or perhaps what they can provide. If I do imagine myself in a scene, more often than not, I’ll identify with the spanker. I’m usually thinking about how I would handle things differently than they are, though also appreciating and learning from what I like about what they’re doing. I often imagine myself as a witness or involved peripherally—I like the idea of a wife or girfriend being disciplined by someone other than their SO. More rarely, if I see a female disciplinarian with the right qualities, and in a situation that I can relate to, I’ll imagine what it would be like to be under her authority.

Whenever I read, watch or view any spanking related material it is always done so as the third person. I’m afraid I DO have a little bit of Paul Down’s opinion in me as well, I normally find myself thinking what I would have done differently than what is being presented. There have been many times where I have watched a video or viewed a picture and it has inspired me to write a story.
If a spanking scene is filmed to my liking then the chances are I will watch it over and over and hear myself saying ‘Bravo’, I have found that a lot of that comes down to the chemistry between the players though.

If the spanking scence is usually between two women, I can really put myself into the spankee’s position every time because that is where I am the most comfortable. And I have a hubby who spanks my naughty bottom on a regular basis, so I look at the M/F spankings differntly- as if I am watching a good show with spankings involved.
Although for me, I really need a good story line leading up to the spanking. I like to know a little about the charcters and what they did that got them in so much trouble. A great example of that would be your stepmom series that your did with Bev and Chelsea, and then followed it up with Veronica. Also the stpmom or mouse and then mom vs stepmom were great. Have you ever considered doing a couple of serial shows following a charater that gets into all kinds of trouble? I know you are doing the mailbox scence with Charlie based on my personal experiences, and I would love to see that expanded. Of course I could give you so much more info on some of the stunts that I pulled off and some that I got caught in red-handed. Just a thought.
As for my reading material, I like it to have a good plot and action, well developed charcters and a ton of good spanking scences. Also I like when the writer gets the facial and body expressions written into the scence it helps all the more to feel like you are right there along for the ride. Provided the story-line is one that I find realistic, I can watch at two levels: first, simply as an observer, depending on the setting perhaps as a friend in the house, a “witness” called into a Principal’s office etc. The second level is where I can imagine being involved - but not necessarily with the actors: so I need my own and someone else’s face in the spanker/spankee positions. It is not that I wouldn’t like to spank many particular bottoms - there atre many many whom I would love to take over my knee, but my imagination is sufficient for me to envisage the whole scene, not putting myself in the place of a particular scene.
Where the storyline is not one I find realistic, however, I am afraid my interest is not held, and I switch off with no involvement at all.

For me it depends on the photo and/or video (books below). In videos I respond more strongly (and identify with) those which conform to the types of spankings that arouse me — those which are playful, sensual, erotic or lightly punishing when you know the premise is not serious. And as a switch I especially respond to F/F ones because I can envision both sides of the lap. Those videos that are severe, that show deep marks, deep pain, are essentially turn-offs since there isn’t either a sadistic nor masochistic bone in my body. I can enjoy and identify with M/F and F/M videos in the same comparatively light vein in which at least one party is enjoying and the otheris not getting seriously hurt My identification is heightened by both enjoying. This also goes for pictures.
I like short stories which seem to evolve from the real — either flashbacks to childhood or the erotic side of adult spanking.

When reading a story, I certainly very often picture myself as the spanker. Since the words are creating the images in my mind, it’s very easy to put myself into the story.
When I’m watching a video, though, I just enjoy the video for what it is and don’t attempt to substitute myself for any of the participants. I suppose I’m concentrating too hard on the image to be able to make the switch. If I like the scenario and replay it later in my mind–that’s a different story!

When I am watching / reading about a boy being spanked, I am pretty much always vicariously experiencing his point of view, regardless of the gender of the spanker (although I tend not to seek out M/m scenes). In an M/f scene, I may start out seeing it from the male spanker’s POV, but by those tension-filled, sublime moments leading up to the first smack, to some extent I am always in the head of the female spankee. With an F/f scene my mind is almost always with the bottom as well.
All of the above is true when the scene / story resonates with me on some emotional level. If any aspect of it is repellent to me — if it contains verbal / emotional abus,e or just has a mean-spirited tone — then I don’t get “involved” at all. If I don’t stop watching / reading abruptly (as I usually do), then I observe only from an emotional distance, and usually feel somewhat resentful when it’s over.
While I love Punished Brats for everything that it is, what I just described explains why some of my main reasons for loving and appreciating PB are for all that it is NOT: Besides having no overt sexual overtones, the scenes NEVER have a cruel or abusive feeling; the brats are scolded and embarrassed, but never degraded or humiliated. An interesting question, Pixie. Would have to say that I’m an “observer.” One of the things I enjoy about spanking videos is the chance to watch how others do this thing we do. If I identify with the characters, I do enjoy the video more… probably because it feels more realistic. Also will spot familiar moments… things I will do, or things I’ve had a spankee do… and that’s always cool.
I do wonder if there was a spanking “movie” with full character development and a moving plot if I might drift into imagining myself in a scene or a role. Have been able to do that with a few mainstream movies… so I know it’s possible. Spanking videos though, they’re an escape from reality. The viewer gets dropped into a scene right before a spanking occurs. That works on several levels, but it doesn’t allow me to put myself into the scene. Just too far from my reality (lol… poor me!).

I generally don’t try to imagine myself in a scene in spanking pictures or videos. I’m usually just focusing on the action between the people in the scene. I mostly pay attention to the verbal interplay (scolding, banter, etc.) between spanker and spankee, and if the spanking being administered is a sound one. That said, if a particularly good story line of a brat getting a well-deserved disciplinary spanking is depicted, I do find myself imagining what it would be like to have the naughty girl across my knee while I reddened her bare bottom. That’s not the same as placing myself in the scene, but it is close.

I definitely engage in entering scenes but with videos I find myself too much of an observer, noticing all the elements of the scene, to see myself as one of the participants – at least while watching it. However, if the storyline is unique and compelling enough, I’ll re-enter the scene later in my imagination and play it out again “from the inside.” I find videos a bit too fixed and unchanging though, just repeating the same steps over and over as they’ve been shown, to spend much time thinking about them as they are. But with the right storyline I can take the original premise and extend a one-and-done scene to as many additional scenes as I please.
Pictures on the other hand, whether photos or drawings/cartoons, if not too explicit, let me construct the elements of the scene for myself around my own impressions. Oftentimes I’m happier not to know whether that’s what’s really happening or even remotely resembles what the photographer/artist intended. For me, those are the easiest scenes to imagine myself a part of. I look for the same things in them as you do, Pixie, but then I slip right into that world and become a part of it, just as I would when reading a well-written story.

With videos, I’m more of an observer, but a reactive one. If a video resonates with me, I will flinch and cringe, as if I were the one receiving the spanking/caning/whatever. If I’m watching with others, they laugh at my facial expressions!
Stories are different. I can imagine myself in the female’s place, because I have no visuals. But only if I like the plot, the dialogue, etc.
Interesting about feeling different when you know the model. I had a good friend tell me that she watched one of my videos and, during a very hard hairbrushing scene, she wanted to yell at the screen, “Stop it, stop, that’s enough!” LOL

I’m probably guilty of having an over-active mind so I have to admit to taking on up to four roles: the spanker, spankee, the witness in the room, and the witness down the hall.
As for the characters, I pay particular attention to the spanker. I prefer only women in that role, and they must have a streak of compassion in their makeup; otherwise, they appear too sadistic for my tastes. As for the spankee, well, once again I prefer women, especially slender ones, who seem to be quietly excited about the prospect of being spanked and react in a way that is realistic for their true age, rather than how a child might act. I don’t much care for spankees who project an exaggerated sense of entitlement or a grandiose air of self-centeredness. Such attitudes turn me off, and I don’t really feel like spanking such women in order to correct their disposition.

You can’t always do that with the general public. So I’m very thankful to have a place to correspond with lots of like-minded people that are willing to share their thoughts and feelings. Sure people may choose to masturbate to my films or any number of other things, but I don’t think that means they can’t think. Many with a fetish tend to think quite a lot about the various nuances of their interest.

Paul Down – I find that whether it’s vanilla or spanking media, if something really doesn’t fit the storyline or the dialogue is poor, I’m not able to get wrapped up in the magic of the story. I tend to be more forgiving of spanking scenes as compared to mainstream movies, but there are limits. It’s always an exhilarating experience though when you happen to stumble upon a scene that comes very close to our own personal ideal.
Dana – It’s not wishy-washy. It’s just the way it tends to be sometimes. So much depends on the various situations.
Interesting that you choose to be an active observer or the producer/director role in some cases and seeing the scene as a scene rather than seeing yourself as a part of the action or a fly on the wall of the event. Sometimes I do that too. Heck, sometimes I’ve wished that actual scenes I’ve helped to direct would have turned out a little differently, but there is no way to ever truly dictate every detail.
So for you, it sounds like the spankee is of great importance to you. How you might relate to them. Does it make a difference how the spanker and spankee get along? No matter how much I might like a spanker or a spankeee, if it’s not a comfortable combination for them, I’m left feeling ill at ease.
Richard – Do you still have certain preferences for the individuals in the scene? Say you really like spankee A but aren’t so keen on spanker B, but the two have great chemistry. Are you still able to enjoy the scene or does it all need to line up just right?

Alex – I like a bit of character development too. Sometimes it helps me to really relate to the girl, sometimes it makes me want to really, really see her get spanked hard, and on rare occasions it can be a little off putting, but overall I like to kind of get to know the people who are in the scene. It’s much more powerful that way than seeing the action without setup. We haven’t gone into creating entire series, but we have done a part 2 or continuation of a tale such as with Operation Stepmom and we have talked about doing a second Spanking of the Week.
Winchester – Neat how you are able to custom tailor the scene in level two. Makes total sense. In thinking about it further myself, I think I do that on occasion as well.
007 – That sounds like a very good scene idea. A nice twist on the fantasy setup.
Bonnie – Do you need to connect with the spanker or the spankee or both? I find that both characters play a key role in not only how much I enjoy a scene, but whether I put myself into it or not.
Laurent – Yes, safety!!
CurtisG – I hadn’t even considered how the intensity of a scene might factor in. Makes sense that it would play a big part especially if you are likely to envision yourself in the role of receiving and wouldn’t want to be treated in a harsh manner.
Dr. Ken - When putting yourself in the role of the spanker, do you ever think “hey, I wouldn’t do that” when the plot goes in a direction other than you would have gone yourself?
Jeff – I’m so glad that you enjoy Punished Brats for what we offer and … what we don’t. I’m very uncomfortable with scenes that degrade or try to tear a person down. I know it works for some, but I prefer scenes that leave the person blushing on both ends, not with a broken spirit.
Todd – I think there are some companies that make an effort to create a complete storyline with lots of setup in their full length videos. It probably is much more common though, especially in shorter clip format sites, to move along to the action quickly. I find that even a bit of a set up helps to set the tone. I struggle to get into scenes that have no set up, no reason given for the spanking, and no chance to understand who the players are.
KaraJ – Those are key points that I often look for in a scene too. I am a bit more forgiving of things like realistic sets in spanking movies than I am in mainstream, but I definitely want to see a more realistic spanking delivered than one I’d expect in a vanilla film.
Harry – Ah! So you almost wish to give the girl a second round of spanking! Hope she was very naughty.
^Mike – I adore photos. Sometimes seeing a photoset will make me extra curious about what may have occurred in the video (if there is in fact one) just to see if what played out is close to my fantasy.
Erica – I’ve watched your videos and have been known to shout “you go, Girl!” at the monitor when you deliver a fabulous bratty response. And then I’ll flinch along with you seeing how you pay for your quick wit!
Annapurna – Wow! Four roles! Do you select different roles depending on the type of scene or do you find yourself taking on a bit of all of them?
