As a respected professional in my community for many years, disseminated knowledge of my proclivities and practices would certainly be career-ending, unfortunately--simple as that. Judicious and discriminating selection of play partners through the years has fortunately kept the secret bottled up. There's always a lot of buildup, disclaimers, and "testing the water" -- and I can usually feel my heart beating in my chest -- before I come out and say it. I guess it's what I use when I want to feel that I have "no secrets" with someone. A couple of times I have regretted the decision (once because I was outed to someone else, once simply because the close friendship ended abruptly and I wished I hadn't revealed so much of myself), but mostly it's been a positive sharing experience.
