How important is seeing the bare bottom after or during a spanking? I know that after I have been spanked, one of the first things I tend to do is look to see how red my bottom is and check to see if there are any particularly interesting marks. If my spanking was delivered over a clothed bottom, I’ll tug down my pants and panties to assess the damage as long as I’m in a private place to do so. Seeing the red hue is part of the thrill for me.
The same is true when I watch a video. While not absolutely necessary to make a great spanking scene, I like to see the bottom bared at some point, even if it’s after the spanking is complete, so that I can get a visual measure of the effect the punishment had.

But my curious spanko self would desperately hope to catch a glimpse of the damage done somehow; perhaps shown as the girl checks the state of her bottom once left alone to reflect on her punishment. If the girl was to just walk away without any revelation, it might be more realistic in certain scene settings, but I’d be disappointed to not see the impact the strap had on the naughty bottom.
What is your preference? Do you like to see the bottom bared? Does it matter if the spanking is never actually delivered on the bare as long as you see the naked cheeks afterwards? What are my preferences? Well, I have many! Your second and third paragraphs just about say it all for me, as I do on *most* occasions want to see how red the girl’s bottom got. The exception is when the realism of the scene and the viewer’s imagination intersect. After a really good “wearing out,” the girl can be left standing or be marched/sent off camera deeply rubbing her flaming hot bottom, but the circumstances in the scene prevent her from immediately “checking the damage.” (Perhaps a rude little clerk just got it good from her boss and is put right back to work, a wincing smile at one end and a smoldering bottom at the other, the customer unaware…) It all depends on how the scene plays out, both on screen and in the viewer’s head “going forward.”
I don’t, however, need or want to see every spanking/strapping/whatever delivered on the bare, but that does not preclude delivery of a good, hard spanking. Of course, I’m going to be in the tiny minority on that point. Doesn’t mean a good scene can’t be done just over panties (I used to spank a partner until I could clearly see the redness of her bottom through her panties, her legs and arms thrashing wildly throughout), unfortunately the state of video doesn’t permit such a subtlety to show up well on screen. Until it does, bareness will certainly do with no complaints from me.

I almost always spank on the bare. The first reason is for safety purposes–I want to be able to spank as hard as the bottom wants without causing excessive bruising and marks. That is unless the bottom wants bruising and marks–but there is still a line I don’t want to cross. As areas get as red as we want them I can also look for less red spots to make things “even”.
That said if I know the bottom well I can spank over clothes as I gradually peel them off–or give them a few quick whacks to make a point.

An interesting post – and I can’t come down one way or the other: it is courses for horses. Sometimes a gradual denudement is fine – sometimes straight to the bare – and sometimes over jeans or panties: over skirts doen;t rally work. But if clothed, I think part of the enjoyment is to see the spankee remove clotihing afterwards to display the spanked bottom in all its redness – and realistically I reckon that most would do so pretty soon in front of a mirror to view the “damage”. I definitely need to see the bottom at some point. I enjoy variety, but overall I most enjoy straight-to-the-bare scenes — something about the sight of the pale, untouched, defenseless cheeks, nervously awaiting the first smack (and on the receiving end, I savor the physical and emotional feelings that accompany those magical moments), and then seeing the pinkness as it first appears. One exception I like is a two-phase spanking with a “double upgrade”: Hand on panties, pause, then straight to implement on bare. Well, my first, most candid answer is that I enjoy bare because, well, I enjoy bare bottoms. (Big surprise there, huh?) I like to go in phases from clothed, to partially clothed (panties) to bare most of the time, but ultimately, seeing her bare bottom is definitely a big part of spanking for me. Not that I can’t enjoy spanking a clothed backside, but I certainly do get more enjoyment when she’s bare.

A spanking that, at some point, doesn’t involve a bared bottom is sort of like chewing gum with the tinfoil wrapper still on.
At my normal pace, I–like many others–prefer to start off over the lady’s clothing. Then it’s skirt up or jeans down and the seat of the panties get some attention. Finally, even the underwear goes south, and the spanking is concluded on the bare bottom. The bare bottom portion of the spanking is probably the longest in terms of duration.
The exception would be if it’s just going to be a quick dozen swats or so. Then it might be all over clothing and done with. Or it might be straight to the panties or the bare and the smacks briskly applied.
Either way, in almost all circumstances–and that includes just watching–I think getting the chance to see the bare bottom and the visible evidence of what just happened is very important to me.

When I’m the one being spanked I prefer the “feel” of a warm hand on my bare bottom at some point. I need to reach that “sub-space” where I can achieve the needed release and also feel safe in the hands (or over the lap ..lol)of the person spanking. Another mom might start over the (white) panties and I like that too. In particular when the culprit makes a sassy remark or so and mom decides to take the panties down. I generally prefer to view a spanking on the bare bottom only. I prefer that it start out that way from the beginning. It looks fake, or more erotic than diciplinary, if it starts over clothes and than progresses to bare eventually. I don’t like watching a spanking over panties, ever, the only time I want to see the panties is when they are being pulled down. I do see the appeal in watching one over a tight pair of jeans since I enjoy spanking (or being spanked) on a jean-covered bottom. I’m pretty certain that if that was a real life disciplinary spanking that was given outside of the realm of 2 consenting adult spankos who had agreed to such intense play, the spanker would be getting into a great deal of trouble! But in order to continue to provide scenarios of interest that would contain enough spanking and a bit of variety to meet the needs of spankos, you have to push beyond or even downright ignore the boundaries of reality.
I do admit that usually the photos are taken after the video segment is completed as the pictures are usually done as a reenactment of the scene.
