007 - Thank you! I hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving too.

Spanky - I'm so glad! Many spanks to you. :)

dani - Thank you. I'm so happy that the blog gives you such joy. I hope you had a wonderful time with your family.

Steve - Yep. Give thanks and then give spanks.

Tim - And best wishes to you as well.

Prefectdt - It is an unusual tradition I suppose if you really look at the origins, but it is a nice time to gather with friends and family and enjoy a good meal. A very, very large good meal. Oofah.

Erica - There was literally a vat of the green bean casserole. I made sure to sit on the opposite end of the table from it. I don't think the Pilgrims could have imagined that dish in their wildest dreams.

Jean - Hope you had a good Thanksgiving too. The desserts turned out well (thank goodness!!) depsite my dropping the first pie crust and shattering it into dust.

Duncan - Hope you had a good holiday as well.

Linde - A turkey fire!! Oh no! That will certainly make for a long lasting holiday memory. And I'm sure your toasted buns will be a long lasting memory as well. :D

Winchester - I have to give credit to the local elementary school for the handprint turkey. I kept seeing them in the windows of the school and it gave me the idea.

Green bean casserole is basically canned green beans and canned condensed mushroom soup mixed with a little milk and topped with canned fried onions. :-S

Tony - My dad tells childhood horror stories about being served tomato aspic made of lemon Jello and canned stewed tomatoes. Thankfully he chose not to keep that one as a family tradition.

D - Yep, I made it in photoshop on Thanksgiving Eve. It was fun. Like a little digital craft project.

Dr. Ken - No room for the green beans? What a terrible shame. *cough*

sandy - Yep! That's the same casserole that my in-laws make. Thank goodness there were plenty of other veggies including broccoli, cauliflower, squash, and brussel sprouts so I made sure I got my servings of veggies without having to touch a bean.

Funbun - I hope you had a fantastic birthday!!! Best wishes to you.

Ed - Thank you! There are quite a lot of really wonderful blogs out there that I nose around daily, but I'm glad that you enjoy mine as well.

Brad - I'm sorry to hear about your original holiday plans not working out and the unfortunate circumstances. But the day you ended up having sounds quite nice.

Southern Expat - A sweet jello salad like you described doesn't sound bad at all. But I don't think I'd want veggies floating in the gelatin like Tony mentioned.

2Good - Oh no. I'd like to encourage people to eat green beans. Eat lots and lots so there is none left for me!

Jai - I will happily ship any and all green beans that cross my path directly to you.

otk1959 - Life is short. Eat dessert first. And skip the veggies. :D

hairbrushman - Be thankful if you're spankful? :)

JC - oooh bread pudding. I haven't had that in a while. I will have to see if I can find a yummy recipe and make a batch for a special treat on a cold winter night.

Tim - Eric made the holiday video clip so all the credit goes deservedly to him! Glad you enjoyed it.

Green beans are good...I had some on Thursday...but green bean casserole...blech.

I hope your Thanksgiving went well. And to respond to your comment in the last thread...awww, thanks :) Honestly, I'm not sure I've ever had a turkey drumstick, although homemade apple crisp sounds wonderful. The big hit in my family was the bread pudding.

So...did your hubby make his own "turkeys" on your backside for Turkey day?

You are a bad influence...discouraging people from eating their green beans! Tsk! You know you're a role model. Btw, I passed on them myself this year.

I think it's clever how you and other bloggers re-named the holiday. I was wondering if anyone else was nervous that they may slip in vanilla company and call the holiday "spanksgiving"? I am glad it's over so I can stop worrying....but I am not in the clear yet and hope I don't slip at work on Monday when politely asking, "So how was your Spanks...er...Thanksgiving?" 2Good

I agree with you on the green bean casserole. The worst is when the white sauce is made from lard or bacon grease.

I'll have to disagree with the previous poster about jello, though. "Congealed salad" is one of the South's culinary masterpieces. There's just nothing like red jello with marshmallows, walnuts, and canned peaches suspended in it, served on a leaf of lettuce. It's only a matter of time before some trendy NYC restaurant starts serving this for dessert.

Our Thanksgiving plans took a detour when our reduced family got an unexpected message that our host family lost an elderly mom overseas and our hostess was off to the Orient. We improvised, went to a good art movie, had a fancy hotel restaurant dinner and will remember the day for a long time!
