Tony Elka commented on my last post asking if it was so unusual that he strongly prefers giving spankings with his hand over any sort of implement. I seriously doubt that he is alone in his preference as I think hand spanking is an absolute classic!
The hand is always readily available (handy so to speak), doesn’t arouse suspicion if spotted by a vanilla, and perhaps most importantly can be a source of wonderful sensory pleasure for both spanker and spankee. It’s also relatively safe to use since the spanker is able to feel exactly how hard he is smacking and unless he has unusually long fingers, there isn’t much chance of wrapping and hitting unintended targets. In my mind, the hand is in a class of its own.
But, while hand spankings are number one in my book (and tops on my guy’s list too), I like a little variety too. It’s the same as with OTK being the position that immediately comes to mind when I hear the word “spank”, but it’s nice to shake things up once in a while and get a belt or paddle in a bent over position instead. I like the different sensations and marks. That’s just me though.
So how about you? Does the hand rule or do you prefer spanking with implements? This question is open to everyone – spankers, spankees, switches, and observers alike. For those of you that enjoy more than one role, doe your answer change based on whether you are giving, receiving, or watching?

I just LOVE to use my HAND and the OTK position does it for me! Maybe the reason Rosaleen Young called me a “spanking Purist”.
Nothing feels better than the soft velvelty skin of upturned buttocks, the resilience, the continouously changing contours of the round cheeks and the feel of the impact, the sound, the flattening and the springing back…
It’s more intimate as well as you are extremely aware of the presence of the girl who is spanked over your knee! You can feel her every move…
On a couch or a bed she can be brought into a very comfortable position over the lap, which allows for long time fun… As a fun spanker (which can be hard as well occasionally) I love to smack, fondle and caress the buttocks, which are the most attractive part of a female body to me..!

Implements can be fun for a change, but nothing “beats” the hand when it comes to spanking.

I’m a switch and only do the hand and OTK, with a one-person exception, a SO, who likes it both hard and with a variety of implements. Still OTK though. The hand is more sensual and OTK makes a connection. Never figured out what pleasure someone gets by using an implement without any bodily connection whatsoever,

I prefer to watch OTK with a paddle or a strap, hand is ok too.

I’m still pretty new to spanking, but I can definitely say I like a hand spanking best – anything else just hurts too much. Plus, with my fiance being a novice at spanking, the couple times we’ve tried anything else has resulted in a few errant swings. Ouch!

From what I’ve heard and read over the years, the hand still seems to be #1 with many, if not most. There is no implement that is as immediate or intimate as the hand.
That being said, I too like a little variety, even though I’d prefer that most of the spanking is by hand. I like the sting and smack of leather. A man’s belt has a special thrill for me — not just the feel of it, but the sound, the look, the ritual of the unbuckling/pulling through the loops, etc.
Also, I can understand why tops might want to go to implements — their poor li’l hands get sore, bruised, blistered… :Þ

OTK hand spanking is the absolute neccesity in our relationship. Yes, we do try other implements and positions, but we always have and always will return at some point to GOF OTK Hand spanking. There is nothing I feel is more intimate between 2 people than spanking, and no position better than OTK using the firm hand.

For my favourite plays I will always choose a cane but hand spankings have a lot to be said for them, especially in the variety department. Not only are no two hands the same but the type of spanking an individual spanker gives can vary greatly, depending on mood and situation. A hand spanking is almost always a unique experience.
OTK is a long way down on my list of preferred positions. For a hand spanking my most enjoyed position is free standing with hands on knees while the spanker holds the back of my neck with her non spanking hand (the spanker is standing) while bringing it on with the other hand. This gives the feeling of meeting the challenge of holding a free standing position while receiving some caring control and reassurance from the restraining hand. The little bit of pressure that is put against the restraining hand as the body naturally reacts to the spanks is strangely satisfying and adds greatly to the experience.

Hand spanking on the bare bottom has to be my favourite. I guess the classic position for this is OTK, but a hand spanked bottom while the spankee is touching her toes also has its attractions.
If implements are used in a scene, then I much prefer one implement to be chosen at the beginning and used throughout. I think I’m not alone in saying that ‘mix and match’ scenes where a variety of implements are brought into play are just not that realistic.

Another vote here for the hand and the good ol’ OTK position.
Since I usually have to travel in order to play, the hand has the obvious advantage of being easy to take through airport security. And it provides a nice variety of sting, anywhere from a swat at about 1/5th my strength to full strength.
For position, I usually sit on a bed with my back against the headboard, and approximately in the middle. The lady then can go over my lap and have the width of the bed to support her weight. Consequently, the only discomfort she experiences is where it’ll do her the most good.
While I’m (almost) strictly a hand-spanker, I do usually travel with a leather paddle, a leather ruler strap, and a hairbrush (actually more of a clothesbrush). The brush seems to be larger than the normal hairbrush–overall it’s about 1′ long, with the handle being 5″ and the oval striking surface about 7″. I never actually use them (with one exception), but I figure it’s good to have them, just in case.
The exception is one very lovely lady who has a love/hate relationship with the brush. You’d never guess it from her reactions while it’s being used, but when it’s over she does have to admit that it’s an “effective little sucker.”
Naturally, I’m only too happy to help her develop that relationship…

A young mother once told me that she used a wooden spoon to spank her children because she didn’t want them to associate her hand with anything bad that happened to them. Adult spanking relationships can be based on something very similar, as couples may engage in play but draw the line at anything that changes the level of perceived equality (my first partner told me that if I ever spanked her for real, we were done).
When I first began a spanking relationship, in college, my inclination was to only use my hand on my partner’s bare bottom, usually OTK. That was in keeping with those I’d witnessed growing up and the way she was raised, as neither her mother nor stepfather took any pains to spare her embarrassment as they spanked her well into her late teens. I began using implements then as a matter of necessity, after nearly losing a fingernail while trying to take her jeans down while she quite effectively resisted (dresses/skirts were largely out of fashion in those days). I use implements for variety now, but still prefer to use my hand as I feel it is much more personal and therefore more sensual. Also my hand gives me feedback an implement does not: I can feel her bottom getting hotter, I can tell just how hard each smack is, and delivery is much more precise as my hand can conform and take shapes an implement cannot.

Hand is #1 on both of our lists too… but also like you… we like to mix in some implements. Suzy likes firm leather thud and floggers because of the sensation. I… and I know this is mean, lol… like wood paddles. They always elicit a response. No doubt what a wood paddle is for when it comes out.
When it comes to position, most all of them work and have their place. If it’s any sort of longer spanking though, comfort comes first… which is spankee flat of the lap.

In every spanking that I administer, I use the hand and it is my favorite implement by far, for the reasons mentioned above, it gives great feedback, the tactile pleasure of knowing that the bottom you have been given permission to spank is by her desire, and also part of the fun is the sound, the color and the control. OK, the nudity helps also.
Also, with the hand, you can go on for some time, spank in rhythm, and you can spank someone long and hard, and sometimes put her to a nice bedtime sleep.
Now, some naughty girls, including the ones who get it regularly, warrant leather, wood (and perhaps ivory), just to get a rise out of them, and make a good impression, but I always like to finish with the hand and make them feel like it is very personal.
Some, not all, want rubs and hugs with the hand. Others like to keep in the disciplinary mindset for the moment.
I also prefer use of my own lap as opposed to sharing the pleasure with a bed, table or a chair. I guess I just like disciplinary intimacy.

Despite being probably the most inexperienced spanker here, I would like to add my two cents.
I would say that a hand spanking is perhaps the most versatile of spankings as it can be anything from just a few quick smacks for fun, a full session in itself, or a warm-up prelude to some implements. As you pointed out, it is always to hand (pun intended) and able to be administered pretty much anywhere indoors or out, as well you know!
And I would fully agree with Brad about the OTK position being very intimate.

As far as the PB site goes, I am a huge fan of dialogue and the otk hand spankings that accompany those words. I like when the threat of an implement is mentioned or even added into the later portion of the scene. That being said, I have to say I give you props for changing things up recently and adding more and varied implements. It has made things more interesting…even if it has meant you and other brats “end up” with sore bottoms as a result. It’s all good…2good even!

dani – Yes, I think “hands down” the hand is the most personal and intimate of all the implements.
Funbun – I am not at all surprised to hear that the hand is tops with you. I have to agree with Rosaleen that you are a spanking purist!
Curtis – I can’t speak for others, but I sometimes prefer implements not only for the variety, but because I enjoy the different sensations, marks, and at times I don’t want the level of sensuality that a hand spanking may connotate. Odd perhaps, but true.
Stef – Your preferences as far as viewing seem to be very much in line with those spankings you like to receive. Do you find that you imagine yourself as the spankee when watching videos? I know that I often do and so my preferences tend to be similar as well.
Anne – Eeep! Having an implement land in the wrong spot can be a not-so-pleasant surprise! Taking it easy and slowly building up those skills is always best, but if the hand is a perfect fit for both of you, then perhaps there is no reason to take the risk of acciental ouchie bits.

I don’t trust myself enough to not land wrong and I’d feel terrible forever if I really hurt someone.

I’ve been a spanker for many years, and OTK hand-spanking is always my first choice. The only time I have used an implement (hairbrush, paddle, etc.) on the lady’s bottom is when she specifically asked me to.
But to me, nothing beats the warm, tactile feel of palm against bottom flesh. And it DOES help to be able to gauge the intensity of the spanking, by feeling it in the hand.
