My tomatoes, my boys as I call them as they are Best Boy and Big Boy varieties, are doing amazingly well considering I was sure I was a daisy dead thumb. I love them and actually named them all but I forget who’s who, except for Horace. He was the first to bear fruit so he stands out.
With eight plants nearly four feet high plus two minis (donated by my boyfriend’s parents because eight just isn’t enough), the back deck is quickly becoming overrun with greenery. But it’ll all be worth it when we have enough fresh tomatoes to supply the neighborhood. And hopefully by keeping them up on the deck rather than planting them in the garden, the deer will be less likely to help themselves.
One of my boys appears to be showing off his bare bottom. Wonder where he gets that from?
I know talking or even singing to plants is supposed to help them grow, but how about a little kiss?
And speaking of showing off bottoms, I didn’t realize until this picture was taken that these shorts show off a little more than I intended.

Thanks so much for sharing…:) I like your “garden
updates” most of all.

Oh my — that bare bottom tomato is hilarious!
I so envy you — I love fresh vine-ripened tomatoes. I eat them like fruit. (Yeah, yeah, I know, they ARE fruit. But no one thinks of them as fruit.)
What I’d like to know is how do you know the tomatoes are boys?

You can tell by the stems, Erica. :p
Dag, lucky plants get a kiss from Pixie? Gotta find me a plant costume.
Love those last two pics. Thanks for sharing.

That last pic reminded me of one of those garden ornaments people put in their yards of the little old lady bending over showing her flowered bloomers. Of course, yours are much cuter and more likely to hold the attention of the neighboring males far longer: “Whatcha lookin’ at, Paw?” “Oh, Pixie’s bloom…mmm-ing flowers, Maw!” “Why, Paw, you’ve got all of that you could ever want to see right here at home.” “Naaaaaaaaahhhht exactly, Maw.”
Oh, and what’s better than VPL? Actual VP, of course!

Tomatoes, I can’t grow those (allergic). Fruit kissing is not a recognized horticultural method for aiding plant growth but it looks like it’s working, so why the hell not

Yes, that bare bottom tomato would make an interesting photo once it starts to ripen.
I had an Uncle Horace. Never thought I’d see a fruit named after him.

You look lovely tending your thriving plants. The gardening community has its new spokesperson. You make it look like so much fun, even for your generation. Twenty-somethings can use another pastime besides playing with iphones and laptops, right?!

Scene: Exterior. Front porch of a house in an Eastern city. There are tomato plants growing very nicely on the porch. From stage right two DEER enter the picture and climb the porch steps.
Scene: Interior of the house. PIXIE is sitting in a comfy chair, looking through a magazine when….
Sound: DOORBELL
PIXIE looks up, puzzled, clearly not expecting anybody. She gets up, puts down the magazine and walks to the front door. She reaches for the knob, then stops herself)
PIXIE: Who is it?
DEER: Candygram!

Hmmm … I wonder if Pixie is old enough to get that “candygram” reference….
Great pictures. I’m sure the neighbors really appreciate all your gardening efforts — and even the non-voyeurs will be glad to share the tomatoes!
