Spanking Pixie

… how does your garden grow?

Ok, maybe not the best rhyme, but I was hard pressed to find a suitable word to go with Pixie.

I’m proving to not be quite the Daisy Dead Thumb I thought I was.  I’ve been steadily expanding my various garden spots and have planted pansies, phlox, roses, lobelia, impatiens, vinca, hosta, larkspur, petunias, and tomatoes.  The petunias, larkspur, and tomatoes are still in the sprout stage since I started them from seed, but (knock on wood) everything seems to be coming along nicely.  I’m quite excited to see my little green babies do so well, and hopefully the recipe for garlic and hot sauce spray my mom gave me will work to deter the local deer and the fat groundhog that lives under our woodshed from treating my garden like a buffet table.  My neighbor has also informed me that the groundhog likes Oreos so maybe if I deliver a box directly to his hole, he’ll stay away from my plants.

Unfortunately I have discovered, the hard way, that there is poison ivy growing in my backyard.  The ivy will now be added to my list of evil green things (along with green beans).  After raking and clearing out some brush along the fence line, I developed a severe allergic reaction.  I will kindly spare you the gory details.

My boyfriend was working just as deep in the brush as I was and came away completely unscathed!  Funny how it affects one person and not another.  I have been banned from doing any yard work outside of the safety of my garden (which appears to be clear), so it’s not all bad.  :)

I did have to visit the doctor to receive a shot of Prednisone (and bless Arthur Nobile for inventing it) in order to get the allergic reaction under control and guess where the shot is given.  Yup.  Right in the bum.  No problem, I thought.  I get spanked all the time.  How bad can a little needle hurt?  Well, the injection didn’t hurt at all going in.  Then as I walked to my car, it hit me.  My entire cheek felt like it was cramping and continues to ache like the deep muscle pain after a hard spanking (minus the surface sting and only on one side of course).  I keep whining that I need a pillow to sit on.  :)

Thanks for the perfect “Earth Day” entry! Your flowers are just lovely. Persistence pays off. Knowing you I bet you think it’s even worth the risk of getting poison ivy to be outdoors in your yard. Poison ivy was enough to get me to swear off gardening for years…and my cure didn’t even involve a painful shot. You are a brave one.

    Dear Pixie,
Keep whining and you probably WILL need a pillow to sit on!

I can just hear the doctor now: “Hmmm, I could give her the oral vaccine, but she has such a cute little round bottom…..”

    Dear Pixie,

Great to develop such a wonderful garden! A garden is pleasure for life and you can even grow shrubs with branches that are extremely supple and suitable for… Yes you know.. :-)
I’m not happy with the Prednisone shot. It takes up to two years for your body to dispose of this stuff. (Adrenaline glands will be negatively affected) When you look it up in the computer you will find that it belongs to the medicines that are pretty strong. One of the eight “Medicines to be avoided at all times; only to be used in cases of real emergency..!”

A severe allergy in most cases annoys, but it needs just time for the body to get rid of the toxin and it is over and done with. Like a good spanking.

Anyway no use crying over spilled milk. You’re young and strong, so I shouldn’t worry.

    Love and XXX, Funbun

2Good – Yes, happy Earth Day!! And in honor of the day, I am planting even more goodies in my garden – strawberries and some pretty blue and white Christy-Veronicas.

Dr. Ken – Is that what the good doctor orders? :D

Funbun – Yes, having the space to grow a nice garden is a wonderful thing. I only had a tiny plot when living at the apartment complex and it was subject to the maintenance men getting a little overzealous with the weedwhacker.

As for the Prednisone, it was more than necessary. I appreciate your concern regarding avoiding medication unless it is an emergency situation, but having open, weeping sores covering my arms and legs and having one eye throbbing and completely swollen shut counts as an emergency in my book!!

  5. Erica

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaack — you poor girl! I’m so sorry you have to go through that. What did I tell you — the @#$%ing outdoors is overrated!

I hope you feel better and all that nastiness goes away quickly. What a horrible reaction.

  6. Funbun

    Dearest Pixie,

Didn’t realize it was that bad. Poor girl. Can imagine the doctor gave you this stuff as it sounds like a real emergency. Trust all is gone now.

Forgot to say that I like the photo you use in the section “About Me” in your spanking journal a great deal. It is so darn lovely. So much YOU. But I can’t enlarge it. Could you mail me an enlarged version?

I used to get poison ivy really bad when I was a kid, and then all of a sudden I stopped being affected. I think your body may learn how to fight it off with time.

I never did get the prednisone shot, but I did have to get a penicillin shot once for strep throat. My friends had told me it was really painful and went in the butt, so I was relieved when the nurse put it in my leg. Like you, I didn’t feel much at first, but by the time I got home, I couldn’t bend that leg at all. I was limping for a week! Lesson learned: a little embarrassment now pays dividends later.

    Poor Poor Pixie!

I got poison ivy on my arms a couple of years ago. You don’t know you have it on you until it’s too late. It’s nasty stuff! I’m glad you got to the doctor right away. Sounds like you got a very bad case of it!
I’m one of your lurkers. We lurkers care about you, too. Take care of yourself, sweetie. I hope you’re all healed up soon.

♫You’re gonna need an oceannnn of cal-o-mine lotion♫

Down heah in Dixie, Pixie, we’uns also have to worry about the dratted Fahhrr Ants (that’s Fire Ants to all yew Nawww-thunuhs. …Y’all! ;) ) Being non-allergic to poison ivy, I can pull the stuff bare-handed all day with no problem, but Fire Ants are another matter. You can (and *will*) get stung/bit (both at once) for years without more than an easily disposed of double pustule then, out of nowhere, a sting will send you into anaphylactic shock which has proven fatal to several ‘garden-hardy’ adults.

Poison ivy should be pretty easy to recognize and, as I recall, the toxin is transmitted in an oily substance on the leaves. Unlike Kudzu, which has truly eaten the South, you can eradicate it from your yard. (And it won’t come crawling into your clothes, wait until there’re hundreds of others, and sting you all at once.)

Your garden looks like its going to be a great success, and you’ll be able to enjoy morning (Diet Coke) on your back porch watching the sunlight bring it to life (…trusty shotgun at the ready to chase away those pesky herds of deer, moose, elk, etc. looking for a free meal. :D )

  10. Chloe Elise

Oh noes! How terrible! (The poison ivy, not the garden.) Hope your bum is back to normal soon. Of course, being the brat that you are, that isn’t likely either. =P

  11. Pixie

Erica – Yeah, poison ivy is definitely not my friend. I just can’t stay away from the outdoors though! I must be a glutton for punishment … in more than one way.

Funbun – Yeah, the cyclops look is just not a good one. I am on the mend though. Thanks. :)

You should be able to click on the picture/download it at about 450 x 600. Is that not working? It seems to be ok on my end.

Southern Expat – Oh I hope I can somehow develop sudden immunity. Unfortunately it seems to be just as nasty as the batch I got last year.

At least the shot was given at the very top of my butt. I only had to tug my shorts down a little. Even though I have my bare bum all over the internet (or so it seems) it’s different somehow when putting my bare self in such a vulnerable position.

Vann – Thank you! Lurkers are always welcome. And please feel free to say hello whenever you wish. I promise not to bite nor send any ivy your way.

Dreams of Horses – Calamine is a must. I slathered myself in it and then wrapped my limbs up like a mummy. I’m telling you. A mummified cyclops. Does it get any better than that? Ugh. It’s been night and day though since getting the shot and follow up prescription.

Those fire ants sound just terrible!! I really would be scared to death to play outside then.

My bf and I just bought a nice new bench last week for the porch will be perfect to curl up on with a good book and my trusty Diet Coke.

Chloe – You’re probably right. As it is, I keep having to remind the bf to NOT smack the left cheek. So much for my grace period.

  12. JC

    Aww, geez.

Glad you’re feeling better, at least. Glad you got it taken care of without too much difficulty…scary as hell, though. Keep us posted on the flowers.

    Cute band-aid-on-the-butt pic :)

  13. Alan

    Pixie,

    Sorry about the poison ivy.

As a kid I learned to watch out for those three leaved plants.

“Leaves of three, let it be.”

The “Leaves of three” warning works as a reminder for poison oak as well I think.

I don’t know if mosquitoes would also be an issue where you are but down here in Maryland, they can be a problem in the evening later in the season.

Still gardening can be a lot of fun.

    Enjoy your gardening adventures.

Young lady–the good doctor INSISTS! (At least, I think I do–can’t read my handwriting on this prescription pad….)

Sorry to hear about the reaction to Poison Ivy – I don’t klnow about the drug, but what a good job you were able to go to the doctor without a heavily striped/marked bottom! That might have taken quite a bit of very clever explaining – especially if the latest (and recent)implement had been the blue crop. I am sure the b/f will be able to target the right cheek quite adequately until the effect of tghe injection has passed:-)

Glad yhour garden is taking shape. I am no gardener but I jhave often dreamed of being able to grow things – and would especially like to be able to grow vegetables like green beans (which I love).

  16. Herb

I’m just getting off oral prednisone. It’s nasty stuff and I don’t ever want to take it again. It makes my heart pound in my chest and keeps me up at night. Fortunately, I was only on it for nine days. It did work but at a price.

For poison ivy, I use Technu wash if I think I have come in contact with the plant. This will mitigate an outbreak but do nothing once you have it. After I have an outbreak, I use Zanfel cream. It is the only thing I have tried that will reduce an already present outbreak.

You did need the prednisone. You can’t use topical creams in your eye and once it gets in the bloodstream it can pop up anywhere on your skin. I didn’t know this when I had my first outbreak on my arms. A few days later the rash appeared on my butt. Since I don’t go outside bare bottom (unlike some people I know), the urishrol had traveled through my blood to other interesting areas.

    Good luck with the recovery.

Hi Pixie……..so sorry to hear about your sore bum (sic)! ……..but delighted that you have been able to provide a view of the plaster where you had the injection. As ever, the sight of your lovely bottom has made my day!

I’m also pleased, of course, that you’ve discovered that you’re somewhat green-fingered and so will have great pleasure this year in seeing lovely things growing. But, as far as I’m concerned, if I want to see sights of outstanding natural beauty I need to look no further than your delightful bum and the bums of my two ladies…….

    Aristotle.

  18. Jeff

Hi Pix! Congrats on discovering your green(ish) thumb; Hugs for the poison ivy and the sore bum! (Now you never have to be embarrassed about any of your rhymes again.) Thanks for sharing the adorable picture … oh, yeah, the garden ones are lovely, too!

For me, thinking about shots in the fanny has almost the same type of effect on me as enjoying a spanking fantasy. (And in RL, if I ever needed an IM injection and was given the choice, I would always request to get it in the bum, explaining that I don’t have much meat on my shoulders and don’t feel like having my arm movement compromised for a day or so. It helps that that’s actually true; but, sadly, I usually don’t get to choose.) I think the common “trigger” is the idea of baring one’s bottom to an authority-type figure, and nervously anticipating something painful, but “for your own good.”

In contrast, I take it from what you’ve said (and what you haven’t said) that the shot thing doesn’t “do anything” for you, beyond the medical benefit. Despite our commonalities, we’re all different.

Anyway, best of luck with the garden … and may your adorable little bottom get the “green light” for bilateral spankings again as soon as possible! Take care.

    Jeff

  19. Sherie

I would take any implement to a needle anyday….

Definitely less painful in my mind but i HATE needles!

  20. Steve (UK)

I’ve been away from your blog for a few days (slapped wrist) and I didn’t realise what a rough time you’ve had. I hope you’re better now, and the experience doesn’t discourage you from keeping up with the gardening.
Still, it seems like your bottom escaped the nasty rashes, which I guess is the most important thing!

  21. Amy

Ach love, so sorry to hear about your brush with the evil ivy. Hope you’re on the mend now.

    xxxx

  22. TomTheDom

why did the doc set the needle so far up. it would be much more convenient to shoo it into the softer spots, thus reducing the after-pains. maybe doc is a bit on the sado side though ;)
