We went to the county fair and hot air balloon festival yesterday afternoon. It was a lot of fun and my first time ever attending the fair despite living in the area for a few years now.
There were a ton of farm animals of course, with prizes given to the best in show for each category. There were also competitions for best produce, baked goods, and the title of Dairy Princess. Plenty of vendors lined the fairgrounds selling yummy fair food like kettle corn, candy apples, and italian ice as well as crafts and novelty items. I wisely passed on the pink rhinestone encrusted princess cowboy hat.
This little guy is called a Turken because he looks like he’s a cross between a turkey and a chicken. He really is just a breed of chicken also known as the Transylvania Naked Neck. Poor dear. I’d probably prefer to be a called a Turken too.
There were lots of cute chicks at the fair too.

Then I was thrown in the stockades. Guess I shouldn’t have tried to slip the inmate cow a file in his hay.
Around 6pm they began launching the hot air balloons.
We baked in the setting sun awaiting our turn for a ride and it was worth it. Up, up, and away!
It was a clear, gorgeous night and despite my fear of heights, the view was lovely.

Over here it is usual to attempt to pelt the face of the person in the stocks with water-filled sponges – quite a fundraiser with the right personality in the stocks. But “funbun” is right – and that might make also quite a fundraiser in the right place at the right time! Sounds as if you had a lovely day out – but you won’t catch me in a hot air balloon!

Gotta agree with funbun. If only the fairground had been a little less crowded. (Sigh) Ah well. Glad it was a great trip, and that you made a new friend in Bessie the wonder cow.
